The Mishima player has eight booby-trap and eight dummy counters. All units start the game as unidentified counters and must be identified (or identify themselves by shooting) before they can be shot at.

Mission Motivation is HIGH (the Mishimans fight to protect the heir of their liege). All ashigaru start the game at the TIRED fatigue level (they have been asked to take part in repairing the shrine, they have booby-trapped the garden and dug defensive positions). All others are at the FRESH fatigue level.
