Archers firing...
« on: November 23, 2010, 09:02:34 AM »
Completely random, it always make me smile when i watch a movie and there's archers ready, then the hero shouts "fire!"

I wonder what was the correct call...wouldn't be "loose"?

I have never run across the actual command in anything I have read.

However, loose is probably what Germanic speaking languages would use.

The Romance language groups would use another word, but I suspect the tranlation would be similar to release or loose.    I will defer to someone who has some knowledge of Latin or another Romance language.

Let fly!

Found this:  http://pilgrim-archers.co.uk/terminology.aspx

Apparently, "Loose" is the correct command.

If sing, sang, and sung, sink, sank, and sunk, and drink, drank, and drunk, how is it that it isn't bring, brang, and brung, think, thank and thunk, and ding, dang, and dung?

Don't even get me started about bad, badder and baddest.  Run, ran AND run...again?  C'mon!
