Sometimes mini painting can get a little tedious, but the end result of my labors are full warbands of goblin archers and goblin swordmasters! It was really grueling painting 18 coats of orange skin, then 18 second coats of orange skin, then 18 washes on the skin, then 18 first coats of purple cloth, then etc etc etc. But it had to be done! It's a little taxing on me to have the "reward" (finished current project) to "work time" ratio be so low.
I'm trying to get the following 1000 point army ready for next month:
8 Goblin archers + leader (done)
8 Goblin swordmasters + leader (done)
12 Goblin spearmen + leader (in progress)
1 Goblin myrmadon (done)
5 Orc swordsmen + leader + greatswordsmen (4 of the swordsmen are done)
1 Alchemist (done)
1 Troll (done)
Archers and Swordmasters:
As for the goblin spearmen, how I wish I could find some actual excelsior sculpts for these guys but I'm beginning to think that is never going to happen (either they were never massed produced or there are just so few of them out there I will never find any). So I've given up and decided to use some Ral Partha goblins. I only have 6, so I'll have to round out my gaming army with unpainted swamp goblin spearmen for now until I track down more. These Ral Partha sculpts look like "typical" goblins. Hard to find stuff that looks like Chronopia blackbloods. But at least they have a spear and no shield, are about the right size, and the sculpt itself has some nice detail. I really wanted to field an army that had 2 full warbands of these guys, but I cut it back to one so I'd have less unpainted minis on the table...
So after these are done, I'll need to paint 3 orcs (1 swordsman, one leader, and one greatswordsman) and my Blackblood force wiill be ready to battle.
for the heck of it, here is a picture of my current workspace:
Once I get the goblin spearmen and orc swordsmen done, I'll probably still have a week (or more) to spare before my gaming weekend so I am thinking of what quick Dwarf or Blackblood project I could still squeeze in. I'm really tempted to get that Horned Ones Blood Totem on the board...
