COG's license revoked
« on: September 16, 2009, 08:14:28 AM »
Looks like Paradox has pulled the plug on the efforts of COG to release a new version of the Mutant Chronicles RPG. I was pretty sad to hear this as I really would love for a new edition to come out.....MC is probably my favorite game setting. The reason provided was that the license ran until March of 2010, but since there was no chance of the (much delayed) product to ship before then, the license was revoked immediately.

No word on the future.....but we don't need to wear shades.

Paradox just seems to be trying to **** off everyone!   Truly an international effort.

Hopefully the original material will continue to scratch the itch for those who want to keep the setting alive.

I'd feel sad but 1) COG had gutted the world, erased cybertronic and replaced it with some sort of Middle East-based corporation, 2) got rid of the shoulder pads and big guns 3) got rid of the Dark Soul 4) the worst sin of all, talked forever about how great it was going to be and showed off art and stuff and never published a single thing.

I have no sympathy for them.  Sorry but I don't.

I thnk they did it all wrong. I did not have any interest in what they were doing.

In a perfect world, they would have taken the established genre, embellished a few things, updated it to show some of the game fluff that had changed between the 1st incarnation of the RPG and all the incarnations of the skirmish rules.... and produced a sound product, as 60% of what they needed was DONE already.

INSTEAD they chose to eliminate an  entire faction, change several elements of the background and other stuffs.  It happens... and that's that.

Paradox did have a right to pull the liscence as there was NOTHING released by them after how long?

FFG at least tried...  they failed to a degree with a few of the choices made but they *did* try and they did release *something*.

Archer 100% agreement.

Here's what, in a perfect world, should happen.

License goes back to someone who can develop and cares deeply about the game. Hmm wonder who fits that description.

Also, why cant they re-release and update SOTC? Great game, update and improve, even better. Improve the figs add some scenerios, amybe even 3D maps.

In the meantime, I will be throwing some d20's within a week at my house.

Always look out for number one, but don't step in number two.

Tim,

I don't have the cash to purchase the property and do it right.  Had I a few million, I would do it... and I *know* how to do it and do it right (see previous commentary somewhere on this board).  I also have alot of good advice and examples from others who have either been in the biz or were.

Perfect world Tim... none of the **** that has happened to the property would have happened.

But the world is by far not perfect.  Not by a long stretch of even the most deluded individual...

I am sort of sorry to see it fail. Despite the thing they did to Cybertronic it looked like it could have been a nice take on the setting.

Re-releasing SOTC sounds like a good idea though. Maybe that's what Fantasy Flight should have done instead. Update it a bit, new minis, even nicer looking game board etc. Then they could have released some expansions like the Brotehrhood, mission packs etc.

I agree Coil - while there were certainly elements to the COG effort I did not like a bit (Sundiata replacing Cybertronic), they were at least working on the product.....and from what little we saw, doing a very high quality job with it. I'm guessing with this latest round of failures, the whole universe is probably now relegated to being supported only by us. Despite what I feel is the best overall game setting out there, Warzone/MC has really struggled to succeed. The products have been good quality.....but the reults always - for one reason or another - bad. Its really a shame. Even with my reservations about the changes to the product, I was still very much looking forward to running games in the new MC RPG. I hope they - or someone - gets another shot to revive it....but I have my doubts.

Has anyone heard any Warzone rumors? I know Paradox was planning on "sitting on it" for a while.....but I haven't heard anything else in ages.

I enjoyed SoTC and the other board games. Should they be re-released (especially if a spruced up version were made) there is no question I would buy them again.

Interesting...

According to COG, Cybertronic was removed at the order of Paradox.

  Fascinating.
