Obligatory newbie Mini-ID question
« on: September 08, 2009, 03:58:39 PM »
As the newest newbie, I had to follow tradition by posting a mini-ID question.
I played WZ about 10 years ago under 1st ed. rules, so most of my figures are older; I've just recently bought some more.
My question isn't about any one mini in particular, but about the renaming/redesignating of figures.
Some examples:

The Nick Fury look-alike Capitol guy w/ eye patch and shotgun: I've seen him listed as Sgt, Captain, and hero.

My Nathan Parrish in blister pack has "Sea Lion Hero" printed on it.

The figure identified in UWZ as Admiral Colby's Guard Sgt. is named "Sea Lion Sgt." on the blister pack.

So, how do I know what figures actually designate which characters? Can I just use whatever I want to be whatever, as long as I clarify it with my opponent? I checked the mini-listing pdf on mutantpedia, but it just kind of confused me.
I'm still working my way through the UWZ book (just got it last week), so I apologize if the answer is in there.

Thanks

Some of the older figures got re-named for Ultimate Warzone.  So, you need to look at the pictures in the UWZ rulesbook to see the changes.   I don't know that anyone has done a full list of what figures got re-named and re-categorized.

As for strict adherance to using the correct figure....we ain't GW!   Just let your oppoenent know that the guy with the eyepatch is an AC Guard Sgt, or whatever.   Next week he can be the Capitol Captain.

As time goes on, you can fill in troop and leader types with the "official" figure, or you can start proxying the figs you cannot find.

The goal really is to have fun, and with the prices of figs the way they are, you should do what you can within your budget and time.

The ultimate goal?  Push figs, roll dice!  It's all about the game.

Post pics of figs if you need help ID'ing an unknow, and we can definitely help.

Thanks! I kind of suspected that, with all the talk about proxies and the difficulty getting figures.

That sounds like a job for, "Archer-man!"
If sing, sang, and sung, sink, sank, and sunk, and drink, drank, and drunk, how is it that it isn't bring, brang, and brung, think, thank and thunk, and ding, dang, and dung?

Don't even get me started about bad, badder and baddest.  Run, ran AND run...again?  C'mon!

The Nick Fury look-alike Capitol guy w/ eye patch and shotgun: I've seen him listed as Sgt, Captain, and hero.

Capitol Colonel.

My Nathan Parrish in blister pack has "Sea Lion Hero" printed on it.

Because back in the day, that was the Sea Lion Hero.  Now he is Nathan Parrish, Supa-Loner ACG hero who could not lead his way out of a paper bag. ;)

The figure identified in UWZ as Admiral Colby's Guard Sgt. is named "Sea Lion Sgt." on the blister pack.

Back in the day, the current ACG/Free Marine models were used for all the Special Forces units.  Now they are generally considered Free Marines (mohawk guys) and ACG (non-mohawk) as the Sea Lions had a release of specific models for them.

So, how do I know what figures actually designate which characters? Can I just use whatever I want to be whatever, as long as I clarify it with my opponent?

Pretty much.  There are few models I don't know among the Corp units.  Dark Legion I admit I am not well versed in.  Never succumbed to teh Darkness like some of these guys. ;)

Yer welcome.  I've been involved in the game since Heartbreaker had the license to make the figs... and have the collection to prove it. :)

Thanks.

Since you are all so informative, I am going to take advantage of this marvelous well of information.

Which figures were in the Capitol Doomtroopers 2-pack?

I know one of them is the Light Infantry Sgt. with the baseball cap, I'm just trying to figure out the other.

thanks in advance.
