Audrey Nethery Blood Drive
« on: June 06, 2009, 10:43:44 AM »
We held the first Audrey Ann Nethery Blood Drive yesterday at my office. It was
a big success as we had a total of 39 units of blood donated. The donated blood is for the community and not just Audrey . Unfortunately I wasn't successful in my endeavor to donate. I hadn't eaten lunch, was on my feet
the whole drive and when they took blood from my finger I almost passed out. I
have no idea why, it didn't hurt at all, all of a sudden I was going down..lol.
I will donate asap though (after a good lunch!!). The really cool thing though
is that our local newspaper covered the event. Hopefully this will spread some
awareness about DBA as well as the need for donated blood. Dr. Ellis was also
there and donated along with several of his research assistants. Dr. Ellis is a
researcher for DBA and is associated with the DBA Foundation and works at the
Uniniversity of Louisville medical school.

Here is a link to the newspaper article:

Take care everyone,

Scott

All of us should make a point of donating, no matter where we live.  I'm good for a pint or two.
May the Dark Lords of Lead-Free Pewter smile kindly upon you.

Origins had a Blood Drive last year. If they are back again I'll give a pint extra-sweet for Audrey.

Thanks fellas!! Unfortunately I see a lot of children at the Hematology office where we take Audrey that need regular transfusions due to cancer and other ailments (not too mention all of the adults as well). Heck, the ironic thing about the blood drive that I didn't even realize is that my wife lost her left leg on that exact date 19 years ago and needed blood due to the accident (car accident). My life has been touched in several ways now due to the kindeness of others and I do appreciate your posts about donating.

Take care,

Scott

Thought and prayers going your way.

Glad it was a success.
