Reaper's CAV
« on: May 04, 2009, 08:49:43 AM »
Well, it's on now.  I've got Dave and Dodger started, and they're schooling me.  Dave's already painted up the starter box, and we're all busy cooking up lists and putting down proxies with Dave's Battletech models.

Anyone play this game in addition to our favorites??

I own a rule book.... but no CAVs.

I happen to play Battletech.... and with over 300 mechs, I should think not wanting to branch out into something else would be understandable. :)

Proxy my boy, proxy.  You don't need to spend coin to play CAV.  If you like you could add on a CAV every few months and have a force, proxying everything else in the meantime.

Anyway, we're having a blast playing, so I thought I'd see who else might want to kick the tires.

Tried it at Dave's this past Friday. Very easy to play and the "wounding" works well with the game. Can't wait to add additional rules (other than the quick start) and move through copious amounts of terrain.

Ha ha!!  Another one into the fold.  I hope we can learn the game together Tim.  I'm finding it fun, but it's like Warzone to me: strange game without swords, Dwarves, and magic.

My brother has a few of the rulebooks, but does not seem interested in playing.  He has the core book, and Journal of Recognition 1+2.  I am interested in trying it, but he is really stuck on Battletech.

EDIT:  Actually just talked to my brother, said he'd like to sell them if any of you are interested, the books are in almost new condition, just shelf wear, he hasn't even read them.

Since the books are First Ed ( NO printed 3nd Ed book yet) and I don't play 2nd Ed, how much would he want for the books ?? Plus S & H, delivery confirmation and insurance of course.

Looks like we will be playing at Dave's on the 16th.

i also want a game of Warzone. 750 tourney rules sound OK?

No reason we can't do it all on the 16th.  I'll even have some of my models painted!!

I need to get going on painting my figs. Primer figs just don't cut it.

I know the main tester for Cav 3rd.  Its been done for well over a year and Reaper is dragging its feet on its release.  They are releasing some nice stuff but without the book, its kinda for nothing.

I'm willing to learn it but investing in models is kinda a bad Idea.  I have four squadrons of Northern Heavy Gear I never get to use and have been jonesin' to play.

Of course, I have battletech. and can provide almost any size force for a battle.... (up to a regiment of painted mechs)

Why are they waiting to release the 3rd edition? Is it being dropped or are they waiting on the figs to be released at the same time?

They're notoriously slow with CAV.  They have more resources and energy devoted to their fantasy products.  I'm not worried about the book.  You can get the rules online, or off of the disc with the starter box, and all of the data cards are on Reapergames.

There's more than enough to work with.

It's not the micro managing of Battletech, a little more beer and pretzels, but not too shallow either.  It is fun and the models are beautiful.
