A Devout Spell Question
« on: February 21, 2009, 07:27:43 AM »
I think this has been answered before, but I can't find it.
Quicken Undead.
It says it adds +1 MV to the target unit for it's next activation.
The target unit is any skeleton unit on the board.
I'm sure that this includes the Risen, summoned Undead, Raise Undead, summoned Giant Skeletons, and summoned Undead Knights.
But does it include the Cursed? While they are the Undead classification, they don't have the "Immune to missile weapons" special rule that all the others have.
Are Cursed considered "skeletons" for the spell, or are they just a better type of Undead that don't get to take advantage of the spell?

I have always played that this spell works on any unit with the "undead" descriptor.  Who's to say the Cursed aren't skeletons underneath all that armor and clothing?

Okay.  The Cursed are classified as Undead from the FAQ and other posts.  They are immune to hand held missiles  (arrows, bolts, slings,) but not Impaler bolts or thrown rocks from a Crusher.

They are the only undead in the game that CAN run!!  Giving them 4" movement means a run of 6".  The Quicken Undead is nasty on them, as it gives regular undead 3" move with no running allowed.  They just shamble forward.

They really are a staple of a Devout force, as the Devout are not really missile oriented, except for Skeleton archer/missiles, and some Jackal Clan Crossbowmen.  As a close combat force, you need a good screen to protect your force as you move across the board.

Thank you for the clarifications, Josh.
That was what I was looking for.
So, should the spell "Quicken Undead" be FAQed to say that the target unit is any "undead" unit on the board instead of any "skeleton" unit on the board?.

D'oh!!  Good point.  I'll double check the details of the spell, and it's intentions, with Thom.  This will take a while, but I'll run it by him.

For certain though, the Cursed are undead that can run.  Go get'em.

Thom says Quicken Undead is just that, and the wording "skeleton" should be changed to Undead.

Thank you for your work in answering this.

I hope I can get my nephew interested in Chronopia by letting him use / paint my Devout army.
So far, so good, but I wanted to make sure I knew the rulings on Cursed.

Thank you again.  :)
