WoW Miniatures
« on: December 20, 2008, 08:03:17 PM »
Has anyone boughten any of the WoW Miniatures?  What is the quality like?

A few of them have limited appeal as possible monsters for gaming.  Especially since my brother really wants to crack out some miniature gaming again, we are looking for good quality prepaints so that he doesn't have to paint his figures.  We'll most likely be playing my game as it is meant to use whatever we have.  So far the best option seems to be Confrontation

But, I am still very curious as the quality of these guys, a lot of the stuff would make great summons, or some unusual units, like the fish guys.

I have a friend that has bought some, and he really likes them, but he is also a WoW player (addict really), so that may have skewed his opinions...I have seen his and they aren't too bad for prepaints...

the rules for the game are a bit clunky, but easy to understand...

We are eyeing up the Slitherblade Tidalhunter, the elemental, voidwalker (I think that is it), and a few others.  I think the current plan is to nab a few of the Slitherblades and convert them into different poses/weapons.  I am thinking of taking those long cone shaped shells and using them as swords, then taking the flat disk style ones and making shields.  Should make a pretty convincing aquatic race.

I personally thought their scale was a bit large for 28mm gaming.  The paint jobs fall somewhere between Confrontation and AT-43 pre-paints.

They are supposedly 40mm, however the fire elemental, darkness critter and such are pretty scale independent.

Here are the figures we wound up grabbing, I say we as we often share minis.

Bog Elemental - Figure we now have a summon for the Swampies

Enraged Fire Spirit - Makes a good Fire Elemental no matter how you slice it.

Frostmane Troll - This will be, well, we have no idea, but it looks cool.

Sarmoth - Some sort of Darkness or Void Elemental

Bleakheart Hellcaller - This is a great general purpose Demon.

Bloodscale Wavecaller - A cool aquatic critter, seems like it will match well with the next guy.

Slitherblade Tidehunter - We are thinking that if these are nice enough we'll buy a lot and repose and do weapon swaps, perhaps make a whole army (Cerulean Horde?)

There you have it.

I have bought a starter, deluxe starter and about 6 boosters, and well i like em alot!  As stated they are not the best paint jobs, but are on the higher end for prepaints... I have yet to try the rules as i am hoping to do alittle conversion work and make a really small scale skirmish version on my wargames rules i wrote.

Any way, ya they are nice and a few of the monsters could work for summons, etc.

So the figures we nabbed came in.  The paint jobs are pretty awful.  However many of the sculpts are great.  The Slitherblade Tidehunters are great, I intend to replace the shoddy spears though.  The Bog Elemental is also quite good.  I'll post some comparison pics later, my desk is currently messier than normal and I don't have any space . . . .
