Random Mission Objectives
« on: January 25, 2008, 03:43:40 PM »
Ok so what I did was print these out and cut them into 3x4 squares before lamenating them.  The way they work is before the game start each player randomly draws a card.  You may even consider making duplicates so that there is the potential that both sides have the same objective!  Nonetheless, after drawing the cards decide if you want to make it known or keep them a secret.  Either way its fun.

One thing of importance is to go through each card after setting up the board and declare where the center objective is, what the high point is, etc so that if you choose to keep the objectives secret there becomes no debate at the end of the game.  In addition, it may help to have a read through of all the cards so that each of you knows what could be going on.  This way it also helps with army construction by promoting a more balanced force (ie, some scenarios require melee kills while others need fast troops).  Finally, the percentages listed on the card are based upon the total points you are playing with.  So if you are playing a 600 pt game and an objective is worth 25% then you would get 150 points for completing it.  Pretty simple eh?  Now onto the 6 objectives.

Take and Hold
It's strategically vital that you take and hold an objective situated far out in no-man's land.  The location you've been given is just co-ordinates on a map so it could be anything - high ground, a building or a road - anything.  Whatever it is you've got to clear the enemy away from it and hold onto it until further notice.

The objective is the center point of the table unless both players agree it should be another location.

Primary Objective (25%): In order to take control of the objective you must move unbroken models within 3" and make sure no unbroken enemy models are closer to it than you are.

Secondary Objective: Destroy enemy forces wherever possible and minimize your own losses.

High Ground
Patrols have reported increased movement of enemy forces in this area.  You have been expecting the big push for weeks and ow it is right for your sector.  It is vital that you secure any available high ground and give your heavy weapons a commanding view of the battlefield.

Agree with your opponent which are the three highest points on the table; these are the high points that you must capture.

Primary Objective (10%): For each unbroken squad with less than 50% casualties within 3" of one of the three high points at the end of the game.

Secondary Objective (10%): Same as above but also if the squad weapons specialist is still alive.

Dawn Raid
You've been creeping through no-mans land all night.  Your orders are to sneak through the enemy's front lines and cause as much damage to supply dumps and communications as possible.  Now you can see an enemy force right ahead of you and it's starting to get light.  Your only choice is to break through and keep going.

Primary Objective (25%):  Having a squad with less than 50% casualties or a vehicle with over 50% of its wounds remaining in opponent's deployment zone at the end of the game.

Secondary Objective: Destroy enemy forces wherever possible and minimize own losses

Assassination
The local enemy commander has been causing trouble for this sector and it is your job to seek him out and destroy him on the battlefield.  In addition, you must try to make certain that no other capable officers are able to take over his position and cause your forces further trouble.

Primary Objective (10%):
Destroying the model in your opponent's army that has the highest LD value (if a tie, declare before the game starts who is your target).

Secondary Objective (10%): Every 2 squad leaders and/or officers

Hold the Line
Your troops are occupying a vitally important section of the front line, which has been heavily fortified to stop it falling into enemy hands.  You must hold your positions against any and all enemy attacks until you are relieved.

Primary Objective (25%): If there are no enemy squads with greater than half of their starting strength, or undamaged enemy vehicles/monstrous creatures in your half of the table at the end of the game.

Secondary Objective: Destroy enemy forces wherever possible and minimize own losses.

Guerrilla War
Your force has been living in no-man's land and fighting a guerrilla war against the foe.  Now you are cut off and running low on food and ammunition.  Your have sought out and engaged an enemy force so that you can loot rations and ammo pouches from the fallen.  Your primary concern is to kill enemy troops in hand-to-hand combat so that your warriors can strip them of equipment immediately and then move on.

Primary Objective (10%): Every 2 enemy models killed in hand-to-hand combat

Secondary Objective (10%): Every enemy vehicle/monstrous creature destroyed within 24" of your own table edge.

Great Idea we have done something similar in the past and adds a lot of dimension to games especially if you have a primary and secondary objectives to fulfill.

Taking LAWwaldo's lead - I've typed up his objective cards onto a file that prints out using AVERY's 8371 Business cards.

I've also attached a set of instant generic deployment cards.  Simply number the units on your army roster and use the corresponding deployment card.

E.g.
On my roster I have 5 units.  2 Grunts, 2 Elites, and a hero.

Light Inf. Squad = Grunt Unit #1
Heavy Inf. Squad = Grunt Unit #2
Sea Lions = Elite Unit #1
Assault Marines = Elite Unit # 2
Mitch Hunter = Hero/LEeder #1.

Etc.

I've included some dummy cards as well.

I printed one set in blue, then highlighted the deployment cards, changed their font color to red and printed a second set.

The cool thing about the business cards is you can break them apart in a couple of minutes and voila...

If someone can host the file - I'll post it (I tired uploading but the box is all full).

Cheers!

Strangely uncomfortable with where this is headed.
