Brotherhood Powers (old and new)
« on: December 11, 2007, 07:35:17 PM »
Why were the bhood Art powers scaled down so much?  Does anyone know?

What was so unbalancing about powers like

Turn Undead Legionnaire--
Exorcise Evil influence-

Or even the 2nd edition powers--

Bonds of Justice
Blinding light

?

They certainly fit within the fluff/purpose of the army.

Just speculation here but, maybe the Big Kahuna planned to release more (and more powerful) Art in the never released suppliments.

i think the same reason why 2. ed chars where soo weak compared to 1.

-> to not spoil the ballance.

but this was taken to far. personally i belive because not enough playtesting.

exept for some powerful spells, the dark symmetry has the same problem with most spells beeing crap..

I would agree that it was taken too far. In 1st ed the Hood and the DL (and Mishima as well) could do some really nasty stuff on people.

This clearly had to be toned down. 2nd ed accomplished this and even went too far in many cases especially for the Hood.

UWZ also has problems with the powers. The Legion has a number of useful spells and the Hood and Mishima have in general few useful spells.

1st edition converted all of the art/symmetry directly from the RPG. This turned out to be rather wierd since many spells weren't meant to be used on a battlefield. 2nd ed ditched the RPG bond and came up with new spells that were supposed to be more battlefield oriented from the beginning. I agree most of them are pointless, especially when you have to buy the spells one by one, some of them would never get used.

Worked up a basic one but haven't had a chance to play test it.

Divine Fire
Art of Kinetics
Cost 15
Magnitude 2
Actions 2
Range 24

By drawing on the power of the Light the caster can call down an immulating column of fire on the target. Centre the small explosion template on the target and everything under the template must make an armour save against a Residual Dam 8 attack.

Was thinking of allowing the damage to be boosted and removing the residual on it, bear in mind it is auto-hitting if you can cast it, what do you think?
