To use simulataneous close combat or not...
« on: November 28, 2007, 05:52:37 PM »
We play UWZ (3rd Ed) but have recently tried using the 2nd Ed. simult. combat rules along with it.

So far, we like the action and grit of it.

Opinions, experiences, pros and cons, game balance issues...anyone?

The way that CC works now is very cool, especially with Group Assault and/or Secondary Attack.  The simultaneous combat of 2nd Ed. was a bit less realistic - no matter how many models assaulted one model, that one model got to attack all of them.  In my opinion, UWZ gets it right.
If sing, sang, and sung, sink, sank, and sunk, and drink, drank, and drunk, how is it that it isn't bring, brang, and brung, think, thank and thunk, and ding, dang, and dung?

Don't even get me started about bad, badder and baddest.  Run, ran AND run...again?  C'mon!

This was a heavily debated topic when UWZ was first released.  It really rubbed people the wrong way as they clung to the arguement that nobody would just stand there and not fight back.  However, this is a game and balance is an issue.  As McGee said (wow that's twice in one day I'm agree with McGee) UWZ has it right.  You just need to learn how and when to use your waits!

Under WZ2 rules, you could blithely shoot all your squad's weapons, and still be guaranteed CC strikebacks.

UWZ makes the decision much more difficult, and better balanced, IMHO.  Do you take that last action worth of shots and stand defenseless, or take a wait action?   Tough choice, and it helps keep CC from being totally useless.
