Best Capitol Elite Squad
« on: October 26, 2005, 10:01:16 AM »
Ok, I have done this in the old Forum, but I just ask again
to bring some discussions to start, I hope.

Which is the best Capitol Elite Squad?
You have two votes!
Yes, I know there is no "all in one" perfect Squad for each mission.
Some Squads can be very usefull in specific missions, but some
are really usefull for nearly each mission objective.

So here's my favorite: The Wailing Banshees
Why? RC10, AR 21, cheap, tactical sense and the best of all
5'' jump MV. With this manoverability you can fullify many mission goals easily.

My second fav are the Assault Marines as universal HMG killing force.
They are perfect for defensive missions.

Third Free Marines for their ambush and the Brass Knuckles.
Fourth Rangers. Good stats, infiltrate and Snipers.
Marines! Lets kick some A S S!

My 1st pick would be Assault Marines High RC + AR plus Dam 11 Assault carbine and of course RL with AP loadout this squad is good for any mission. My 2nd pick would be Rangers for Infiltration.

I may be in the minority, but I still like the Sunset Strikers (personal style) and also the Assault Marines. As a Free Marine fan it was a tough choice.

In the Navy - definitely Wailing Banshees - the best combination of firepower, mobility and cost effectiveness you can find in Capitol.
In the Army - Sunset Strikers. Flexible and deadly. They are fragile and require support from other units, but used correctly they may win battles for you.

After seeing the results of the survey after I voted, and obviously I am in the definite minority....

my votes:

1.) Admiral Colby's Guard.  Same points cost as the Free Marines with Survival Training and Guerilla Training.  Two skills that i love using.

2.) Sunset Strikers.  What is there not to like about this squad.  Good RC, good CC, no bad stats at all.

B.
and Thom...like you, I'm a huge fan of the Free Marines

1) Sea Lions, not cause of the stats, simply cause i like the models and in game they have never ever let me down.
Only need to get this Flamethrower again that i own a model for.

2) Assault Marines, always usable they can hold a portion of the battlefield, or i throw them in the thick of battle (not that
they tend to survive that, but my other troops have a much more easier job them)

3) Wailing Banshees, fast mobile troop to seize objectives inj almost no time at all. Recommended in some "get in, pick up
    and secure" scenarios.

1st Sea Lions  I started Capitol coz of the look of that guys (I always play  a maxed out squad when i play navy)

2nd Sunset Strikers coz i love their speed, their CC and template support. And ofc they just look bad ass with the katanas  8)

erm wow.  it's hard to pick just two.  From each force:

     navy:                                                   Ground:
1  Assault Marines                                   Rangers

2  either W. Bansheers or                       Banshees
   Free Marines

Assault Marines-  high AR, RC Dam Weapons and rockin specialists

Wailing Banshees- FAST.  good AR and RC with quick deploy FT's
Free Marines- Bare Knuckle beat down!  The Mishima player in our group has learned to never get within Charge range of those crazed ex-cons

Rangers - the lynchpin of any Ground force campaign.  Always where you need them and always packin high-speed specialists in the front likes

13th div Banshees.  FASTER!  nothing special about them, they're just blindingly fast

The Sea Lions are good but due to the high cost tend to end up being life support for that brutal rifle they can field.  It doesn't help that Adml Colby's oprhanariam survivors can do everything the Sea Lions can, except better ( and they look slightly meaner too)  The sculpts for the SeaLions are pretty impressive and as soon as the Mother of all Rifles comes out i'll paint up a squad.

I honestly don't see the attraction to the Sunset Strikers.  They have swords and can move.  That combination alone resigns them to rear gaurd and anti-Paratrooper roles.  The FT is welcome, but only serves to cripple charge ranges when it bastes the opposing front ranks.  All in all, not overly impressed with their near 30 point cost.  A Secondary attack or CC rating or something woulda gone a long way towards dissauding the cost.

I'm surprised of this vote so far.
My fav the Wailings are just on the 5th place with the Sea Lions.
Sea Lions as good as Wailings? Come on, that can't be.
Wailings are faster, harder, better. Only the Sniper is a good thing at Sea Lions.
And Sunsets on third place? Yes they are not bad with the flamers, but I think they are overrated, I have tried them.
Assault Marines on first is ok. They are the universal squad with excelent specialist, but for many scenarios to slow,
keep that in mind.

I think it depends on playstyle and personal preference not just the most "effective" statline  ;)

@ PFC Joe i never use my strikers as a rear guard, but than i always play on tables with lots of terrain so they can make full use of their close combat weaponary :) (i use them in armys where Movement 4 is the slowest (besides infiltrators) so they can outmanoever a lot of conventional armys).

Ass Marines still got the bad taste from 2nd Ed. powerspiraling for me, i use them as well but i think they got no style  (just big armor and big weapons, wow thats innovative  ;D).

Sorry gang but no matter how good everyone thinks they are I have a hard time fielding a bunch of overgrown kids in TMNT costumes -  ;D

I refuse to throw together an army based solely onthe preceived powers, but rather put together the best forces to fit an overall force concept. I voted for the Free Marines and the 13th Div Banshees based soley on their storylines. I love the concept behind these units.

I hav had the best battles with armies involving the Free Marines and the Assault Marines.

In one of the battles, jjdodger was running Capitol.  His Free Marines managed to advance through a hail of Rotary Shotgun fire and get to my Jungle Kommandos and kick their arses HTH.

In the other two, Dragon62 ran his Assault Marines so well that it was all I could to keep from losing ground, let alone gain any.

It may be the players I was up against (more than likely, it was) but those were battles that were incredibly challenging to me.
If sing, sang, and sung, sink, sank, and sunk, and drink, drank, and drunk, how is it that it isn't bring, brang, and brung, think, thank and thunk, and ding, dang, and dung?

Don't even get me started about bad, badder and baddest.  Run, ran AND run...again?  C'mon!

Well, on the one hand, Rangers have the pimpin'est hats, Sunset Strikers have sharp nasty, pointy swords.

As far as Capitol Navy goes, I'd say the Sea Lions are good. (Mostly for style reasons)

I voted for Rangers because their inclusion has won me lots of games.  Mv4 Ar20 is pretty damn nifty, along with a good RC.  Combine that with a forward advanced Sniper and you have a great ambush unit.  I also like Sunset Strikers because they provide a fast reaction force to any threat that manages to reach my front lines, plus I like their storyline.

My vote goes to Rangers.
They work equally well both in traditional shoot-outs and in scenario games.
