squad size and morale
« on: October 20, 2005, 05:45:39 AM »
The rules state that once a squad reaches 1/2 its size, it must make a morale check. That is fine for most squads, but, what abotu squads with several Form Fireteam members? if i have a squad of 6, including a FFT member, and he breaks off, is my squad size for morale 5 or 6? Does the FFT person count towards this? What happens if an individual joins the squad? how about when 2 or more FFT members "join up"?

That's a very good question. I'll get back to it later tonight when I can check the book, unless Pvt Joe can get to it before that.

If a squad member FFTs and leaves the squad, it changes the squad's size.  In your example, it would then be a five man squad(less bookkeeping).  Same for if an Individual joins a squad, except it raises the squad size.

If two men start a FireTeam and then lose one member then they must check for panic, as they are now a squad of their own.

Just to clarify, if having the FFT spec leave the squad when the squad is "on the bubble" between the squad panicing and not panicing, him leaving does NOT cause the squad to do a panic check, as it was not an enemy model causing the new squad size?

also, can he leave if the squad IS paniced, and if so, is he still considered paniced?

The rules for Panic and Form Fireteam do not preclue a member from leaving a paniced squad, so I would see it as legal. If the squad the member leaves from is paniced, then he would be paniced as well, until he rallies, just as any other model.

A memeber FFting would not cause a panic check in the former squad, and yes he would take any status ailments with him.

so let me see if I get this correct (using my Trenchers as an example)...

I have a squad of 8 Trenchers, that has a Sgt, an HMG, and 6 Troopers...

the squad has sustained 3 casualties (Sgt, HMG, 3 Troopers)...

on the HMG's activation, he can use an action to Form Fireteam, making him a single model for activation purposes, and the original squad does NOT have to test for panic for being at half strength because a casualty did not lower them to half strength.  From now on, if the main squad loses one more model, it would have to test for panic, but this would not affect the HMG.

Correct  ( i think, i hate word problems.. my train went into the tunnel and then we had to figure out how many weeks late she was)

The HMG is a squad unto himself.

Any further losses would force a panic check on the old squad and the HMG wouldn't care.
