BATTLE REPORT - Saturday, 28 Apr 2007
« on: April 29, 2007, 05:41:45 AM »
Bill Meredith (wmeredith) and I fought a 1000 PC battle.

    • Apocalypse
  • Praetorian Stalkers
    • 2 - Troopers
  • NecroMutants
    • 6 - Troopers
    • 1 - Tormentor

    • 2 - Wheeled Templars
    • 1 - Wheeled High Templar
    • 1 - Templar Voidbringer
    • 2 - Wheeled Templar Knights
  • Wheeled Templars
    • 2 - Wheeled Templars
    • 1 - Wheeled High Templar
    • 1 - Templar Voidbringer
    • 2 - Wheeled Templar Knights
  • 1 Gommorian Emasculator

dmcgee1's Bauhaus (Richthausen)
  • Ducal Militia
    • 1 - Sergeant
    • 4 - Troopers
  • Ducal Militia
    • 1 - Sergeant
    • 9 - Troopers
    • 1 - RL Spec w/ AP
    • 1 - HMG Spec
  • Jaeger Kaptain
  • Jaegers
    • 1 - Sergeant
    • 8 - Troopers
    • 3 - HMG Spec
  • Vulkans
    • 1 - Sergeant
    • 2 - Troopers
  • Strike Skimmer
    • 2 - Strike Kommandos

Jaeger Kaptain Tallousse scanned the field; two squads of 'mutants and an Emasculator - where was the rest of the force?  Surely, the Legions would not have sent this spattering to take so important an objective.

"Sergeant, commence firing!"  From the tank farm, Jaegers poured lead into the enemy's formations.  Mutants fell without knowing what hit them.  Two entire squads fell in the opening salvo.  The Emasculator enveloped the area in smoke, covering the remaining forces.

"They have revealed themselves," hissed Valpurgius.  "I will deal with them personally."  The evil apostle unleashed Hell, itself, upon the Jaegers.  The ensuing fire was shrugged off by the majority of the Jaegers as if they were expecting it, or blessed by the Cardinal.  Valpurgius cursed.  "Attack!"

"Get the militia to the flank.  Ensure that no enemy finds cover!  Eliminate every last tainted abomination!"  Kaptain Tallousse was determined not to let the insidious legions secure a foothold.  "Press the attack.  Sgt. Kray, get that skimmer up front and pound those Apocalypts.  They must not get close to the troops."  He had stayed visible too long.  It was the last order the Kaptain gave.

"Yes, herr kaptain."  The skimmer flew down the alley, firing into the horde the entire way.  Outboard Strike Kommandos opened fire once in range.  The skimmer took heavy return fire.  One shot found it's mark, and in the ensuing fireball, only one one soldier survived.  Private Lindstrom sought cover behind the wreckage.  He peered through the haze, squeezed the rigger, and took down the remaining Apocalypt.

The Wheeled Templars attempted to gain the flank under cover of Karak's relentless fire.  Militia held their ground - with their lives.

"Herr, Kaptain, what are your orders?  Herr Kaptain?"  Jaeger Sergeant Renet realized that he was, now, in command.  Fire erupted everywhere.  "Kill Valpurgius!  Remove his stinking form from my area!"  The Jaegers viciously continued their onslaught, firing round after round into Valpurgius and the monstrosities in front of them.

Valpurgius began to doubt.  He could not concentrate.  His powers seemed to have very little effect on the Jaegers.  He wondered if the other apostles had conspired against him, and wondered even more if Semai was receiving some perverse satisfaction at his doubts.  Holes began to appear in his form.  The Jaegers were advancing!  This could not be!  "I will crush you!  You will not be reborn to serve me, as the taint of the Cardinal is strong on you!  DIE!"  Valpugius' form dissipated with that scream.

The Wheeled Templars advanced - into the hail of machinegun fire from Vulkans.  The armored troopers traded fire, while Karak mowed militia like wheat to the thresher.  The militia would not break.  They stood and returned fire.  The Templars were outgunned, at this point, and the Vulkans were now concetrating solely on Karak.  Bullet after bullet found him, and his form, too, was released from this plane.  The Templars broke, and ran.

In the end, it was a fun battle.  Fortunately, for me, Bill rolled some of the most horrible rolls I've seen when using Apocalypse.  I only lost four Jaegers to the Apocalpse spell, and lost quite a few militia to Karak's Cthonic Transfuser.

In all, Bill's force was good, his tactics were good, and the dice gods apparently thought that Bill had, somehow, impugned their honor.

If sing, sang, and sung, sink, sank, and sunk, and drink, drank, and drunk, how is it that it isn't bring, brang, and brung, think, thank and thunk, and ding, dang, and dung?

Don't even get me started about bad, badder and baddest.  Run, ran AND run...again?  C'mon!

Hello.

Yes the dice spitefully failed me good thing I own a HAMMER. But, I fielded only standard templars. I think I have something here. I look forward to expanding the list up to 1200-1500 points and seeing what maybe adding a Mercurian Maculator will do.

Cool batrep!  I've noticed that Ducal Militias are often used than the highly vaunted dragoons...  maybe I'm missing something...

Hello.

Ducals for their points are more of a bargain than Dragoons. They can hold their own.

Also when trying to get some speed on the board the MV4 is nice. Plus they are cheap enough to get some heavy firepower on the board if you go with minimal squads. Plus with a couple of loadouts they are a pretty formidable unit on their own. I used the dragoons to get the sniper :)

I fielded Dragoons myself for the sniper. Really dig their "form fireteam skill". Minimum of 5-6 Dragoons w/ Sgt plus a sniper attached is really fun. Add 1 or 2 more squads of them and one would get 4-6 activations for under 500 pts. (roughly calculated.)

However, I wasn't aware of Ducal Militia's movement 4 and the load-outs.  Hmmm, i got to revise my list.

Heh...  I have always been a proponent of the Militia.  Good Armor, Best Rifle, fast mobility and a plethora of options for specialists, really can't go wrong.

An interesting Concept army I still have floating around my notebooks invilves three units of Militia a Dragoon Rifle Team and Mortants/Legates as a Ministry of Justice Task Group.  Maybe a squad of Blitzters for shock-value/Rapid Reinforcements.

The Militia speed is more than enough to bail them out...

Thats... a lot of minis on the board.  One full turn of withering fire can wipe a squad or two.  Add to the Mortants and Legates running into range will only bode ill to the opposing player.

So beautiful.. (Quickly scribbles note to update list and glue minis.)

By the way,  what would be a good proxy for the Legates, besides GW scouts?
Thanks!

You're welcome.

the list above is very similar to my Capitol lists- where I use alotta LI as flanker/fast response troops for my Free Marines (Navy) or Rangers (Army).    Seems to work... especially when the GL gets in range. :)

A Good Proxy would be a bunch of Dragoon Sergeants with an Axe attached to the Pack, New and Old Hussar Sgt with a pack and Axe...   Or the aforementioned GW Scouts with power-axes glued on the back.

All of those work pretty well.

i'd point out the list with three units of 7 Militia, one unit 6 Dragoons (with sniper if you really want him), 4 Legates, 5 Mortant and 5-6 Blitzers (PGL very useful as is the Puker).  Add individuals to taste.

At 1200 to 1500 PC, I'd have to think about adding 2 more Vulkans to complete the squad, and throw in a mortar and some more Militia w/ specs.  Would be fun!
