Shooting priority question
« on: November 20, 2006, 11:52:10 AM »
I know that under the rules you must always shoot at the nearest squad etc but is there anything to allow you not to do so when the nearest squad is simply 1 man/model on his own that is being used as a "blocker" so that other troops can not be shot at, this tactic could be used quiet a lot especially if the troops shooting do not have tac sense and can not change their priority?
It justs seems a little silly that a whole squad may have to shoot at one man/model that is panicked and is not a "threat" to them and yet a squad or something just a few inches behind them is standing there waiting to just gun them down.
Thank you for any help you may be able to give.

Only Tactical Sense per the rules.

So, kill that lonely guy and commence to fire upon the squad behind him, thinking they're safe.  Seriously, one model can't have that many wounds.  We have never had an issue of target priority spoil a game for us - never!
If sing, sang, and sung, sink, sank, and sunk, and drink, drank, and drunk, how is it that it isn't bring, brang, and brung, think, thank and thunk, and ding, dang, and dung?

Don't even get me started about bad, badder and baddest.  Run, ran AND run...again?  C'mon!

You can also manuever your guys so that they dont have line of sight to the model in question. Then they are free to shoot at the next closest target. If you cant see it you cant be forced to shoot it.
Shoot First and ask questions later.

yeah, the rules almost force the use of blocking units to create los corridors..

just like the chariot/repeater bolt thrower tactic in WHFB

use the Strike skimmer as a tac sense device..

ugly, but ...

also, with hard cover the lone guy might hold quite some time/eat a lot of lead.. (golem of darkness...)

I don't know about that...mostly, a lone model out in the open will pretty much go down after only a few shots, no matter how tough it might be...

add cover, and you have a different story...I've had Capitol Free Marines hold an entire flank for a game just ambushing and making a nuisance of themselves...

Good tactics wins over bad tactics any day of the week, and twice on Sunday.  Again, we have never had target priority ruin a game.  What's good for the goose is good for the gander, fight fire with fire, and all those other cliches that work in this instance.
