Squad Composition
« on: November 13, 2006, 11:38:54 PM »
I am a noob when it comes to the gaming part of UWZ, so bear wtih me.

If I am purchasing, say, a squad of Pauldron Hussars, is this a legal unit?

6 Pauldron Hussars
1 Hussar Sgt
2 Hussar HMG
1 Hussar Tank hunter

The army builder file says this is a no no, and I must add a 7th hussar to get the other hmg, I could not find it anywhere that I needed to have anything other than the hussars in order to get the specialists.

Am I just not getting it?

Thanks again.

check the faq (mutantpedia)

3 troops / specialist for elites
4 troops / specialist for grunts

sgt. counts as 1.

pauldron is elite, I belive?
-> should be 5+1 for 2 spec
8+1 for 3

why its the 7th+1 [8] I donīt know, 8 should allow 2 spec.

the army builder file (newest called 2.0, but based upon the others (1.3 and 1.4)) is still buggy.

Pauldron's are Elites and the answer is no. To have 3 Specialist you would need 2 more troopers. The squad is legal if you go with just 2 specialist.

Here is how it works (remember, Army Builder has some issues)

Grunt Squads need 4 troopers for every specialist in the squad (here, a Sgt model counts as a trooper).
Elite Squads require 3 troopers (including Sgt) per specialist.

Therefore, 6 Pauldron troopers plus 1 Sgt (Pauldrons are Elite) = only 7 models.  7/3 = 2 Specs.  To get a third spec, you'd need two more trooper models in the squad.  8 troopers + Sgt = 9.  9/3 = 3 Specs.

that got me confused a lot in the past until someone from here on the forums explained it to me...I think that it was Joe that helped me understand it...

made some of the squads I owned at the time a little incorrect until I beefed them up...

well, its not in the rule book...when I first got back knto the game, I had my squad of Trenchers, which was a basic squad with a Sgt, an HMG and a sniper...I went to play a game with Stalker and his brother at their place, and Stalker told me that the squad couldn't be fielded as it was (he lent me the models to make it "legal")...I looked all throughout the book to find the squad comp rules, but couldn't find them to save my life, but after about an hour of searching, that's when he decided to tell me that the rule was on the errata, and he showed me his printed errata, and there it was...

it was a little frustrating having to rely on the errata list for, what I consider a very basic rule, but it was after this incident that I read more into the rulebook and saw found that there were a lot of editing errors throughout the rulebook, but once I got my hands on my own list of the basic errata, then I was a little happier...

but I'm better now...
