Bauhaus GT offroad proxy
« on: November 02, 2006, 08:44:00 PM »
Ok,

Community people, I need help choosing something to use as a proxy for this. I have accepted that I won't ever find one (or three) to complete the giant force I am building up. I was looking at a couple of different sources:

Void: They have the dunebuggies and buggy like vehicles, they are cheapish, and with a little bit of plastic card, head swaps and weapon swaps, could easily fit.

WH40K: I was thinking about sticking wheels on a space marine land speeder, could be pretty expensive money wise to do just do (Two land speeder kits, plus wheels would be over $80.00, as opposed to the $50 dollars for the void minis.

Old Crow: They make very cool, affordable resin kits, and they have some strike skimmer looking two man transports, I don't want  to limit myself to thinking just wheels would be ok...downside is they dont' have tons of detail, and though are pretty affordable 20 dollars or so US, i still have to have them shipped to me.

Military kits: I don't have alot of experience kitbashing, so any sugesstions would be cool.

Any thoughts? Thanks for reading my long rant. ;D

I kit bashed one from an old Kryomek wheeled vehicle and some old model parts. I'd post pix but it disappeared into the chaos of moving after my divorce. They're not cheap and have been having problems but if I remember correctly there was a good proxy in the DLD Productions line. There was a company that made a resin dune buggy and futuristic police car, but I can't recall who they are. The cop car is kinda hard to convert but the buggy looks like the Void buggy. Void buggies are on ebay right now and aren't too expensive, so there is a way to get one without ordering from Urban Mammoth. For a unique look an old WWII model in the appropriate scale would be a nice retro piece.

I was looking at dld also, I could not tell by the pics whether they were nice or not.

Also, pig iron productions makes some very cool apc's and tanks..

The Void buggies are still available at:

www.discounthobby.com

and are still being sold from

www.urbanmammoth.co.uk

I think they are closest to the concept and scale but that is just me.
VeezCon products:  Not as good as if they had been actually produced by a real figure company, but better than using your shoe to proxy with...sort of!

like veez said, void dune buggy.

if you can find them, future warriors resin dune buggy. long OOP but showup on e-aby or cons for sell every once in awhile.

If you lucky WORLD WAR 2 model kits in the right scale might work. It does take a bit of looking though.

Hi
The Resin Police car and Buggy are produced by Scotia Micro Models that do the Grendel range which they are from.
Old Crow might be a good one to try also as they have some very cool vehicles in their line.

Thanks Andy for the memory assist. You'd think I would remember that as I go to the Scotia-Grendel site quite a bit. A lot of their stuff works for Legions of Steel (doors and terrain bits) and the ATAC is a good proxy for a Vermin.

The Fantassians have a 6 wheeled swamp buggy and some cool 4 wheeler ATV's and the UNE has a cool looking FAV style buggy. I have all of them and we have extras at the store. Lemme see if I can find some pix to scan into the pooter so you can see them. I'm not sure if they would work for a GT OFfroad but they are cool. I have a couple of the 4 wheelers that I want to turn into Ducal Militia motorcycle type escorts for a scenario I run. I had thought of using GW bikes but the 4 wheelers have a unique look and make more sense in the Venusian swamps.

I have access to almost everything LoS made. I convinced my local gamestore to buy a large lots from other stores that wanted out from under. As soon as I get settled into my new gameroom I will be opening an ebay store and running auctions for the stuff.

Well, i have talked to wargames poland and prince augst, and they don't have any. I can't find them on ebay. Put it this way, I just bought a grizzly and two cobras, but I can't find a gt.

I would say rare, but maybe I am looking in the wrong places. I am going to go with the void buggies i think
