Thinkin' of startin' Warzone
« on: September 19, 2005, 12:18:16 PM »
Being a die hard Chronopia fan, I'm thinkin' of learning Warzone.  I'm thinking of a Dark Legion force, just because I dig the models, and being the bad guys means I would always be able to play people.  Suggestions?  And bear in mind, I don't have the book yet.  Cheers.
May the Dark Lords of Lead-Free Pewter smile kindly upon you.

In play terms, what kind of style to you like? In terms of evil, what themes do you prefer? By that I mean do you like ravaging monsters, diseased hordes, etc...

I'll be honest, the factions play different but are balanced to the point that you can go purely be aesthetics. I've built a horde force and an Ilian force and enjoy both despite the fact that my Ilian force has a losing streak nigh unmatched.
I'd suggest building a Horde force (zombie goodness) or cult list (cultist chewy centers) and then possibly branch into the factions. Mostly I just found the faction that had the most models I'd look forward to painting as I spend more time at the painting table rather than the wargaming table.
Honestly, the game goes a great way towards balance and allows freedom of choice. There's no singular faction that trumps all.

There's a lot to be said for Ilian, though.

Those children look positively evil!  That's what I'm talkin' about.  I'm going just for the joy of painting the models, and I'll worry about play later.

Opponents often wonder 'why?' about the Children as they are arguably the weakest unit in the game, but they are tremendous fun and unexpectedly deadly. Usually my opponents see the Brass Apocalypts or Mercurian Maculator as the real threat and let the Chlidren get close and... then the die rolls fail and my plan goes to pot... But they can be surprisingly effective.

Not that I'm going to hard sell you on Ilian. It only takes a Bauhaus HMG and a few actions to turn a squad of Children into so much thin paste.
Templars on the other hand can stand and deliver... Wheeled Templars... okay Wheeled Templars make Venusian Rangers cry.

I fell in love with the Dark Legion because of the Nepharite of Algeroth alone! The trick is to choose the models you like the look of best and try and work something around them. That being said...Don't forsake your least favorite models because they may actually be strategically sound.

I fell in love with the Dark Legion because of TwoGunBob's awesome entry into the first Warzone Patrol contest. Ever since that, I wanted to have an army just like his, just because it looks soooooo cooooool.

Thanks, Horafrost. You are too kind. That Ilian army ranks up as the favorite one I've put together and painted for any system. I never got bored or deep sighed while doing that one.

"That's why I carry two guns, one for each o'ya." !  That's what's up.  I've found that the cool models to paint pull you into a game, and then the system and tactics get you motivated after.  Looks like I'm gonna get into Warzone.

Josh, I highly encourage you to take up Warzone, its a blast.  As far as suggestions for a DL force its mostly about what you like.  If you want to stick the the more CC centric nature of Chronopia (at least I imagine it to be more CC oriented, I don't actually play)  I would recomend a Muawijhe force.  The lord of Madness has some incredble cool units, nothing beats an Ezoghoul leading a charge of Karnophages belching smoke and still covering 12" in an activation.  While a CC oriented force has a slightly steeper learning curve than a shooty force, it is still entirely possible to kick butt and take names.  Just ask Archer about Daikoku's CC Mishima exploits.

If you want CC you could also try Ilian.  The units that aren't CC masters have Deadshot, which is perfect for supporting the Children of Ilian Charges.

The majority of Ilian individuals have some sort of vastly impressive CC ability as well.   From the Chains of ilian to the Head crush that Karak has,  they just don't come any meaner in CC.

While I like Ilian, there is something really wrong about Demnogonis forces.

It's only wrong if you consider whereexactly the aura eminates from

Does the Dmenoghonorreagogglesness  Nepharite remind anyone else of that "floating fatman" the Baron?
