Title: 4th Edition(???)
Post by: Veez on May 31, 2006, 12:25:24 PM
This is all rumor but is realistic based off of:
1) The molds are (supposedly) all gone
2) Every new company likes to put their spin on a new product
3) Topkick smells like soup (sorry)

If there is a 4th edition by company X (supposedly to be re-released in a year or so), would you:
A) Drop all your old figs and start anew (dumping a serious investment in time and money)
B) Try to play the new game with your old figs (not supporting the new company beyond  buying their new rules)
C) Use the old figs but supplement with the new where they don't fit (pouring more money into the game)
D) Just continue to play UWZ
E) Any combination of the above

One thing to ponder, there is a pretty solid stock of imagery and sourcebooks to draw from to create new figs based off of old designs.   That said, that has not stopped Hollywood from flushing all that down the tubes to put their own spin on the MC universe (which the director's comments seem to indicate he holds the RPGers in low regard).

I honestly would not expect anyone to pick up Warzone, as such.   I hate to admit it, but many FLGS owners got burned by Target, and now they see the franchise going away....again.

However, it seems possible that someone would pick up the ideas of the ruleset, and go with something akin to that spinoff company that also went down the toilet.

If said new rules - whatever they might be called - came with totally new figs, I would probably start picking up selected units based on New Cooler Looks.  Let's face it, mini styles have changed, and new sculptors will bring some new fresh ideas.  The look of some of the "old style" WZ versus 2nd ed sculpts is a good example.

Why do you want to know this? Are you planning something?

God I wish.
I have neither the time, nor the money, nor the business sense to plan anything.

Mostly I was trying to dredge up some converstaion.  Things had been getting slow.  They have picked up but they always do when the end is nigh.

It will have to be impressive to get me involved with any game let alone try to convince my friends to invest their time and dollars.

or

F) Use my Warzone figures (and maybe even new ones)  in a generic skirmish ruleset.

I've been interested in a ruleset recently called "No Limits".  It's almost a cross between VOR and Warzone's Darky Symmetry system.  Best of all it has no base models so it is completely what you want to field and has extensive rules for designing your own armies in a fair and balanced way (we create-you decide).  The only shortcoming so far is that the magic/psycic system is limited, which would not bode well for the DL, B-hood, etc.

I'd be hard pressed to find a rules set I like better then UWZ, so I'd probably just play that.
