Title: Archers firing...
Post by: Oakwolf on November 23, 2010, 09:02:34 AM
Completely random, it always make me smile when i watch a movie and there's archers ready, then the hero shouts "fire!"

I wonder what was the correct call...wouldn't be "loose"?

Loose.  I find it funny as well.

I have never run across the actual command in anything I have read.

However, loose is probably what Germanic speaking languages would use.

The Romance language groups would use another word, but I suspect the tranlation would be similar to release or loose.    I will defer to someone who has some knowledge of Latin or another Romance language.

Let fly!

Found this:  http://pilgrim-archers.co.uk/terminology.aspx (http://pilgrim-archers.co.uk/terminology.aspx)

Apparently, "Loose" is the correct command.

Just hope there aren't any super sensitive women in that archer unit :P
