Hey All,
Just wanted to update you all on my race to be elected to Colorado's State House of Representatives. I have a web site up at www.bradwagnon.com . Facebook site is Brad Wagnon for Colorado.
Not often does a gamer step into the political areana, but I promise to represent us all! I think gamers have, on average, a better grasp on history, logic and math than most. Interestingly enough, I think these qualities are also useful to leaders in our communities. Being able to comprehend tomes of arcane rules, quickly calculate probability and lay careful plans to best use resources to achieve specific objectives are hallmarks of the politician and the gamer.
On average, however, the gamers usually have a bit less tendency to cheat, but may be superior to bending rules to fit the occasion! :)
I am getting excited about this, and hope you all check in on me every once in a while. Now if I can just convince the State Legislature that we should declare an Official I Love Warzone holiday.

Candidate for House District 41

Good luck! I will have to keep a reminder to check out the site every week or so.
I think gamer qualities are what we need for people in office.
-
Quality is what we need - gamer or no.
Brad, I wish you well, and offer any support of which I may be.
That said, you are, now, entering an arena that is a pet peeve of mine. I am disappointed with my government, in general, and feel that we (via our representatives) pander too much to special interests and vocal minorities. Last I checked, the majority rules. Unfortunately, I know and accept that politics is a difficult game, at best, and that certain acquiesces must be made to achieve one's constituents' objectives. However, ultimately, it is the job of a governmental representative to represent their constituency.
That said, I think that lobbyists, in general, should be outlawed. I feel that they are the cause of government's need to heap more and more bureaucracy into an already over-burdened system.
Whew. Sorry for the rant. I would love to talk to you about this (privately, via e-mail, if necessary), and promise to keep it above board and to never use anything you say against you. I say that in front of all the witnesses who read this.
Thanks

Good luck Brad.
Nice to see another gamer in politics. :)
However let's try to keep away from political discussion here on the forum. *Looks at Dave sternly* :)

Of course my first reaction was "Spam!" but then I realized it was one of our own.
Rest assured, we wish you the best of luck but won't out you as a gamer!
-
Got get'em!! I wish you the best. I'll echo Coil's stern gaze at Dave, even if I agree with him. We can discuss politics at your house Dave, if I have whisky in my coffee.
Let's all try to keep it dice and pewter gang.

Sounds like an activity for Talamania - "Whiskey and What's wrong with Washington"
-
Hmmm...have to break out the classic election game, Landslide to bridge the gaming and politics gap!
-
Got a wharehouse in your town for sale cheap. I could buy it and establish WCU - Warzone/Chronopia University. we could all ask Prez Obie for loans and hang out til the election, vote for you and then skedaddle. If it works for Acorn it should work for us ;D
-
:P Nice one Hal.
-
Good luck! I'll refrain from talking politics, as I know nothing of what Colorado's political arena is like. Honestly, I'm happy with my state's representation (MO). Federally, though. Whew! I think I'll just turn a stern eye toward Dave as well....and wink knowingly.
-
That's awesome! I wish you the best.

Junta is a nice political game as well.

One of the best out there! Especially when you get a rowdy bunch chanting during the Revolution phase!

You're right. My apologies. I'll PM Brad and discuss privately.
-
Wow! Huh... good luck!
-
Don't know if there is anything I can do in my end of the world, however I wish you good luck and best wishes in your quest!

A bit of thread necromancy here but I was looking around and wanted an update.
So how is the campaign going?

So how is the campaign going?
Quick Update:
1. I have visited over 4600 doors in my district, and more on on the schedule
2. I have been endorsed by the National Federation of Independent Business
3. Yard signs are going up everywhere
4. I have a fundraiser next week, sponsored by Congressman Mike Coffman
Lots of other fun stuff is on the way!
Thanks for asking Coil.

And the results will be tallied when?

And the results will be tallied when?
November 2nd. I suspect you can Google to find the total vote tallies.
Thanks all, for the interest in this race. I will refrain from politicing on these forums. But, I am doing something I told myself I would be doing with my life since I was 18...oh so many years ago! It is nice to share what is going on with my friends here on the forums.

Too bad we aren't in Chicago or St. Louis...I'd vote for you early and often! :o

How is the race going Brad?

Hey All,
Just to update. Despite great effort, wonderful volunteers, and words of encouragement from all over our efforts came up short of victory.
I was humbled by the well wishes received during the campaign from the folks that I consider friends, and virtual neighbors.
We have learned a lot, and now we begin the process of filling in the calendar between now and 2012. This has been a huge learning experience, and is a dream I have had for years, to make whatever corner of the world I can a better place.
Tomorrow, I lock myself in the basement with a case of Mtn. Dew and get caught up on all the painting projects I have been putting off!
-
Sorry to hear of the loss. I just hope your basement has a bathroom! A case of MD goes through ya like wildfire!
-
I applaud you - not only for the effort to make a difference but also for the courage to put yourself out on that proverbial limb
-
It takes a lot to do what you did. Sorry to hear the results. Good luck in all future endeavors.

I second anything that involves whiskey and Dave's house.
