Post by: Archer on August 17, 2009, 06:06:42 PM
And so... Games Workshop releases the latest incarnation of a damn good game.

Supposedly, it uses the first edition rules

I will be pre-ordering....but probably from my FLGS.

I did see that CLS Games is running the pre-order at $79, but with shipping, the local pickup option still provide a better value.

If I see a screamin' deal on pre-orders, I'll check back in.

Lookin forward to finally getting a copy of a classic game, but at a fraction of the E-Bay price.

The models alone are well worth the price IMHO.

If you like/want the game now is the time to get it. Looks like a vast improvement on the classic game.

Some one slap me please.

GW is re-releasing a good game.

FRAK!  I'm a sucker for these style of games!  MC:SotC, MC:FotC, Space Crusade, HeroQuest, Advanced HeroQuest, Doom, Descent (with all the trimmings), Aliens...I've got them all.  I don't know it I'm ready to shell out that much dough, though.  Even Descent doesn't cost that much money (close to it, though).

(first putting on a rain poncho and grabbing an umbrella to deal with the soon to come hail of tomatoes...) Personally, I think Space Hulk is overrated. I owned all 3 and sold them for a tidy sum and bought 10 other games   If you like SCI-FI dungeon crawling Doom is a better game.  Or is you're dying for the hulk expierience, just use the 40K figs, the free pdf rule, and the doom tiles (or any other tile map based game) and save yourself a bundle.

Good point with the proxy ideas.

I just like the way they did the new figs.

What is better about the Dooom rules versus Space Hulk please?

HERESEY!!! I"LL KEEELLL YOU!

No but seriously, you do have a point to a certain degree.  On the other hand, I expect them to pull the PDFs and tiles to prevent people from doing just that.

Yep.

I like the look of the new Termies for the game... and I would actually try to paint them as BA's.  I just don't know if I want to spend that much.... even if its a deal.

Well, there are definitely similarities between Doom and Space Hulk.  The same feeling of "I'm gonna die!" on the part of the Marines, the same relentless waves of monsters and the same amount of plastic goodness with the added fun of variable map making.

One of the biggest differences are the missions.  In Doom, the general theme is to get out of the level as fast as possible without dying too many times...similar to Aliens, but with respawning.  Space Hulk is more mission-oriented.

Like I said before, I'm a sucker for this type of game, so I bit the bullet and ordered it.

We play Doom with more of a mission orientation.  Doom has a greater variety of foes too.  One can easily improve on either rule set I suppose (working in psyker rules an such).

My friend and I tried Descent. It played well and had some SOTC aspects to it also.

Is Doom >> Descent???

Sorry but I will stick with Legions of Steel -- better game with a wider variety of troops

Sigh....

My FLGS was given an allotment of 10 games.

All had been pre-ordered before I got there.

So, I ordered a copy over the Internet.

I feel so...dirty!   <cue the sad music>  I feel like I have been violated and victimized!   I hate following their carefully laid plan to force sales back into their own evil website.

The horror...the horror....

Oh well, early September I will have at least one copy.

Doom is Descent's predecessor - nearly identical game mechanic.

Now if we had some way to persuade Paradoxplaza to re-release Seige of the Citadel...like a skalak blade to the throat perhaps?

No way-there is a chance they could make money off of it so they'll kill it.

Thinking about it, maybe that's what FFG should have done rather than the collectible game they did. And then future expansions could have been versions of Blood Berets and Fury of the Clansmen. I think that may have worked better for them.

Grat thanks. It does play well. From what I remeber it has SOTC aspects also.
