Title: Manic_Miner Preview
Post by: joshuaslater on September 20, 2008, 09:27:53 AM
This preview is for a new range coming early 2009 from our own Andrew Coleman, aka Manic_Miner.  Andy is an English cat who is acknowledged as a valuable member of our community, and a veritable encyclopedia for all things pewter.  He does all kinds of conversions, is happy to point out cool models for all to enjoy, and now he is commissioning greens to produce!!

Here's the first preview from Andrew Coleman's line, yet to be named.  Enjoy!!

Based on that last photo maybe Cheeky Demon Miniatures would be a good name  :o  ;D

Some questions should be neither thouht nor asked Nick...but Andy might give you the demon's phone number if you are interested.  ;)

I saw the number of replies and thought, d'oh, I forgot to mark the topic sticky, but it appears someone beat me to it.   ;)

I bet that's a Paul Muller sculpt.  If I'm right Andy has to send me at least four!!

Cool looking demon there.

Looks like it could be used in a number of games. Would be cool if he came with a selection of weapon besides the sword. An axe, hammer and maybe a whip.

Post by: Manic _Miner on September 20, 2008, 01:01:36 PM
The miniature was sculpted by Matt Gubser.Matt has done a great job with this miniature and the others he has done for me are also way cool.At the moment he only has the weapon options show but more could easily be done.I could also see it being changed to be a cool Sci-Fi monster too.
Heresy have loads of miniatures with their nut sac's swinging if anyone needs more  ;D.

Suggestions for future miniatures would be welcome.

Everyone on this forum loves miniatures that is a given, considering we collect miniatures from a game that is out of production. Some other miniatures to fit in with the style and flavour would be a welcome addition.

Thanks for posting this Josh and I hope you did not get too sticky  ;).

I could definitely see mself ordering one when he is available. Looks like a fun mini to paint up and he could see some action in our D&D game.

Sorry, the nutsack thing is kinda disturbing.  My wife flipped out at me because I have a mermaid with boobs that aren't covered, I think a nutsack would not go over well.

Also, he looks to need some huge guns for Warzone, but I think he is a good Dusk Realm Warrior.

Post by: Manic _Miner on September 20, 2008, 02:35:16 PM
Glenn Mermaids dont were bra's because the water would just pull them off when they swim or slow them down.Nothing wrong with topless girls anyway. They are only toys.Just lucky your wife has not caught you looking at real ones on the pc  :o.

He would look good with gun's(more Doom type marbe).Possible conversion later on I think.

Post by: joshuaslater on September 20, 2008, 02:40:05 PM
I'll definitely buy enough to field a unit or five!!  You only need 2--4 Dusk Realm Warriors, and if they're a little big for size 2, I only play with cool people who don't sweat stuff like that.  My Dragonskull Warriors are Ogre sized, but on the right base; it's all relative and I've got bigger problems than fretting over scale creep.

I was wrong on my guess, Andy.  The nutsack is a common feature on Paul Muller sculpts, making me think it was his.  I'll have to show him this thread inextricably connecting him to sculpts with prominent scrotums.  Ha ha.

I don't get too wigged out over nudity, but I understand it if people might not dig it.  Everyone is entitled to their tastes, and ultimately will decide whether to buy or not.  I think these Demons'll sell pretty well, and I'm honored I've had to chance to preview them first.

Go manic_miner!!

P.S.  please share with the group how you came by that moniker.  Gather round everyone.  Let's listen.

Post by: Manic _Miner on September 20, 2008, 03:00:22 PM
The moniker is from when we were kid's just goofing around. My name being coleman and all used to get really hyper and over excited about all sorts of daft stuff. Also to do with the Fraggle Rock tv show from years back after the Doozers little construction guys.I used to love that show.

The Leviathan Dragon Skull warriors are pretty big but nice miniatures none the less.I have one of the Lord type miniatures that was not released and Dwarf War machine crew. They also had some other miniatures which never got released. They were very nice from what I can remember and I have tried to get them to release them to no avail.

I think Andy at Heresy has the most Nutsack's and Neatherwang's in his range ;D.He is not affraid to break the mould and do something different from the norm.Hence all the cool miniatures he has in his range.

Just lucky I guess and a miniatures whore.
I also have a limited edition Griffon that Kev White did for a game show over here.Only 100 cast  ;D and I have seven or eight of them :o.

That's very funny you say that.  The first person I heard use the expression "miniatures whore" was Bill Refsland.  Great guy, and yes, he's definitely one!!  I know the feeling as I've quite a bit of stuff from the old days.  Too bad I took off all those years rockin' and rollin'.  I'd prolly have an astounding collection.

Very cool Andy!  I'll be using him as a Dusk Realm Warrior, I think.

Will you be having another pose or two sculpted, or will this figure be a one-off?

I saw this fig on TMP. would make a nice proxy for Sons of Rasputin Bolsheviks. They have a crossed over to the Dark Side and Soviet look all rolled into one bad ass winter trooper. Especially if we could get the guy to make a second pose for variety. The guy who made it is offering it for sale including production rights. I am distribution of figs but if one of our production specialist would pic it up it would rock. I don't have a way to produce it but if one of our experts would check into it I might be able to invest a small amount in  return for a free squad or so when production beigns.

I like it!  You guys need to stop coming out with these cool sci-fi figures, yer gonna lure me in...

Any progress on release dates, can we email you to order any figures yet?  Have you settled on a name for your company yet?
Title: Re: Manic_Miner Preview
Post by: Topkick on January 14, 2009, 06:45:30 AM
Me? I'm just a guy who buys lots of figs and offers them to my fellow forumites. I am in no way a business like you, Andy, and Josh - no matter how much crap I talk here about being a Trading Company. As for the green, I point it out because it is a nice green that could be used as a proxy and it would be nice to have it in the family. I  don't know enough about it to take point and hoped one of you pros would look it over and make a deal for it and if possible a second pose. If one of you wants to produce it I would like to talk to that guy about maybe helping out with the cost.

You want to see me be a tease Josh just keep it up and I'll show up in my "tease outfit" at Talamania. Think it might ruin the event if I showed up in a leather mni and 5 inch stilletto heels?  :o  ;D

I only expect masherking (Steve Garcia) to show up at Talamania dressed as Mr. Jingles from Spinespur.  Upon thinking, I'm'a shut up now.

Let's hope Andy Coleman can steer this thread back to sanity.

This thread has been hi-jacked by Hal's outfits for the benefit of females the world over.

I have the master mould for this guy and several others. No production moulds as of yet.Hoping to have some miniatures for sale March-April.Need to save some more cash by selling old miniatures.

Nice find Hal.It is a very cool miniature as are some of the others the guy is selling.

Who's the sculptor????????
Title: Re: Manic_Miner Preview
Post by: Manic _Miner on January 14, 2009, 11:51:30 AM
The sculptor is Jim Bowen. He has a feature in Wargames Illustrated number 255.It show's some of his painted miniatures. Most of which he sculpted himself for the Monolith designs ranges.
He is a great person and has painted quite a few miniatures for me.He has some more he is working on for me including some 1999 one's.

Manic Miner-atures  ;D

BTW way Andy I was threatening to wear the outfit at Talimania because Josh was calling me a tease. No women were clad by this message

As for the Rasta-man I would take the holsters off and add some GW fuel bottles and bodysling a flamer.  Then I'd call him the Roastin' Rasta-man  ;D

Please confirm that you have the master mold and production rights for the Bolshevik fig. Will you be trying for a 2nd pose? Please do tell inquiring minds want details so we can save up money to give to you

Just got eight painted master castings returned to me today. The pictures I have posted dont do the miniatures justice. The purple glasses are not as purple in person.Very cool miniatures.James has done a great job on them. The large construct one he has done in a green colour scheme is very neat.He went with the Abomination from the Hulk movie for inspiration.

The Zombies have turned out very well as has the Flesh Golem.

More pictures in a few weeks  ;D.

They'll have to be pretty damn special zombies, there are far too many Zombie lines out there for me to have the slightest interest, but Flesh Golem's sound tasty.

I agree with you about the choice of Zombie's on the market place but choice is good.Zombies are cheap points wise so you need lots of them.Having loads of the same is no fun.
The Flesh Golem is pretty cool.He is in a running position.Fresh off the Mad Doctors Table and heading for the door.

Glenn, I disagree only because of the chatter on frothers, the Forum of Doom, Reaper forums, etc. about Zombies.  For people who are really into them, there are not enough sculpts, ever.

I guess if you're playing a zombie survival game, and you want the feel of a parking lot PACKED with zombies, then you really need all that variety.

It's a popular genre, but like you Glenn, I don't need all of them.  Of course, I don't need miniatures at all, and I can stop buying them any time I want.   BULL!!

In theory, I agree, but in practise, when the plastic globes are resting in my hand or pressed up against my face, I haven't ever complained.

If the first alien were to have some sort of wingy looking thing and a tail added, it would make a great Zenethian Soulslayer proxy!  The green thing with headwrap would be a good basis for a Golem of Darkness.

For non-WZ comments, Mr. Walky-Fish is cool, as are the Spartan-esque warriors.  The goule in the last pic is solid as well.  Overall, great work!

I have to say this is one of the best forums that I am apart of.I love the game settings and miniatures and find inspiration on here on a regular basis. It has to be one of the best groups of people around.Just hope I can bring some new and cool miniatures into the games and settings which we all love so much.

Lets see where we are by the end of this year and what we have done to expand the worlds for both settings.

Looking forward to cross promoting the other members products.

But thanks very much for setting us up separately - I agree, it's very cool to have our own little "Forum of Doom" type shared forum (not that I'm claiming to be anywhere near as talented as the folks at the FoD) with a couple of friendly companies sharing space.

I dunno what to say.  Creepy and weird!  I like him!

How big is he?  What's his intended use?

If he's tiny, he'd make a great familiar or homonculus for a mage, if he's big (28mm tall or more) he'd be a strange otherworldly looking demon.

He is 20mm to the eye's.He is not for any set genre.Multi use I would class him as.

Paul has a great knack of doing creepy sculpts. The one reason that I wanted him to sculpt for me.I have been very lucky to have such a great sculptor to work on these for me.

He is one of sixteen by Paul Muller.Really looking forward to showing more nearer to the release date.

Have you decided on a name for your venture?  Is "Manic Miniatures" going to stick?  (I really like that moniker...)

Well, as I said, I'm fond of "Manic Miniaures", and with that name, you  have the advantage of having the name associated with your online persona of "Manic Miner", which you've used on numerous forums.

But you can't go wrong naming your company after your kids, either!

I'm sure it will work for you, no matter what you decide to go with.

Also found out today that I might be made out of a job next week.Work has been slow and the jobs the firm were in for have been taken by other firms under-cutting them. Not looking good for me and my brother.

The upside to this is that I will have more time to get things moving on my miniatures venture.Sorry to sound so negative in this post.Things could be much worse than loosing my job.At least I am still relatively healthy.

Things to look out for are the conversions by Trollen of the Bandaged Head miniature into a Golem of Darkness.

Not too bothered at the moment. We have seen it coming and thought it would have happened sooner.

The good thing is I dont have alot of out goings. My mortgage is small as I bought the house thirteen years ago.My bank loan is nearly paid off jus the barclay card to sort.

It will give me the chance to clear out loads of my old miniatures and toys.Could take some time as I have been hoarding for years.I am like a greedy dwarf with his gold when it comes to miniatures  ;D.

Looking forward to showing you all some new miniatures in a month or so.

Well I suppose it is time for more info from me.

I have just recieved pictures of five Goblins that Adam Gayford (wiffwaff) has done for me.Very cool little sculpts.Should have them in my grubby little hands this week.

Andrew Rae has done three very impressive female barbarian types which will fit in with the Son's of Kronos miniatures.

Paul Muller will be doing more pieces for me for around the end of the month. These I am really looking forward to seeing.

More painted examples should be back around the end of the month too. There are three different painters working on them for me.Should get quite a few different takes on them.

Any ideas for miniatures or what you would like to see first from what has been shown let me know and I will see what I can do.

 All the best

I haven't start any of those golems yet. I had really bad time recently. My dad had a heart attack and I concentrate much on him and my family rather than minis. He's ok now, but doctors said it was quite bad one heart attack.

I'll put them soon coz I'm back on my Red Legion of Algeroth army.

Thanks.

I'm not really happy form how the back of this mini looks like. It came out very well but there is really deep contrast between black and flesh colours. In real it's more smoother. any way I've started work on another Bondage Head Experiments.

There will be 2 Golems of Darkness in my Red Legion of Algeroth. I bought those minis from Manic Miner Miniatures as I find them really great for Golems. Those are best proxies I find along various brands. Of course they still need some conversion work here and there.
First of all the head. Mini comes from bandage head witch would be great for golem of darkness, but I want to stick close to picture of Golem in rulebook, so I need to change it to look more like Razide head. I could not copy Razide head coz it is too big, I need to sculpt it on my own.
Secondly spikes. Golem needs some spikes. There would be some on shoulders and on knees.
Thirdly the Azoghar (Chainsword on pike). Yep, that crushing weapon would be taken from Algeroth's Nepharite. As I want to make it as much similiar to that one my Nepharite has as possible.
Here's whats I've got now.

Title: Re: Manic_Miner Preview
Post by: Trollen on April 18, 2010, 02:36:56 PM
I've decided to go without sculpting new heads. I'm going to use those Orcs skulls as heads for Golems. Tell me what you think.
My girlfriend says that skull is too small for Golem's head. And I know that skulls are different from golem's or razide's heads. But those big teeth have something in common with golem's face. Also, soon I'll be able to show you how it came out.
Title: Re: Manic_Miner Preview

And here they are! GOLEMS OF DARKNESS with beautiful Azoghars! for my Red Legion of Algeroth!

Well, tell me what do you think. Of course there is some Green Stuff work to do. Also those golems need some spikes on arms and legs and probably on shoulders. I'm thinking of giving them shoulder pads (to match other units but this may be not necessary).

40m bases are already done for them so I just need to paint them up.

Just a quick message to let you all know what is happening at the moment.I have started work on a web site and the name of my little venture is :-Four A miniatures.

This week I have sent off thirteen sculpts for mould making. This will include a Mastr mould and several production moulds.

Also recieved six new Dwarf sculpts which break down to two units. One leader and two warriors in each. This brings the total dwarves to twelve.

I also have some Goblins which might come in handy as new troop types.

I will be having stands at three shows this year. The first being in June.Expect to see some more pictures then if not before.

Right here are some pictures of the goblins painted. Two set's of them done by James McLardy and Paul Sanderson. Both really talented painters which have done several miniatures for me so far.

Very nice....

Gotta know,  what was the inspiration for them and especially the two headed goblin as I don't think I have ever seen a two-headed goblin before?

I'm diggin it.

Citadel used to do some Goblin mutants years ago. They had all sorts of mutations. He is just a homage to them.Might be a few more coming along. It all depends on how people take them.

As for inspiration.I wanted Goblins which werre not just Nightgoblin clones.Something that most companies seem to do.These are a bit different but still usable for all games with greenskins in.I want to create a new class or sub-race of them.

That will be three different types of Goblins that will be in the Four A miniatures range.

Would some of these types happen to live in swampy/jungle terrain and the other in the desert?

When I say three different types I should have said "There will be Goblins from three different sculptors".

That is not saying Goblins of a Swampy nature will not be coming out  ::)

The painting is great on these.I amvery happy with the different look that James and Paul have given them.

More miniatures have been sent away to get some paint on too.I have just recieved a message saying that the Cultist miniatures are done.

I hope to have the Dwarves out in about six weeks time. The weirder stuff just seems to sell better. The extra dwarves might change that though.

So, what exactly inspired the dwarf?  Why bunnies?  Anything other than the Playboy connection?

I like the miniature - a LOT - but it seems an odd/unique/interesting combination of things.  How'd you come up with the idea?

Now that just looks fun to paint! Excellent detail all around. The robe reminds me of Cardinal Dominic/Brotherhood. Will the bunnies be separate pieces that we can attach to the base or are they attached to the Lord's leg?

And another miniature which will be coming out from a new company. This is an old miniature which was originally released by Fantasy Forge. He is Slaine from teh 2000AD comic series.

The range is growing at a steady rate.

The next set of releases are due next week if all goes well.

Just had the first test sculpt for a Nezumi come in this week.Great piece sculpted by John Pickford.John has some idea's for Chaos Dwarves he wants to try out.So watch-out for them this year.

Also expecting new's on the next batch of Snowtrooper sculpts and more Shocktroopers to go with the sculpts that I have sitting.

Loads of idea's for future miniatures but it is all down to sales.I have another show this weekend and just hope the weather gets better so that I can make it.

Also had some more painted miniatures arrive this week. These include some Wood Elves which I will be stocking at the show's and more of the Studio miniatures Zombies which I also stock at show's.

All in all 2012 should see Four A miniatures grow quite a bit.

Thanks for the comments on the miniatures.it is nice to get feedback and more idea's.

I hope to get the other Dwarves released this year. They include proxy sculpts for the trackers and swordsmen. Also one more character type to be released.Should give a really cool looking little force when all together.

There is a Mauler sculpt done already.I have just been waiting on sales to pick-up before getting him done.

Most of the pieces done so far are proxy sculpts for the Wolf Clan.Other factions could well follow.

The web site will be getting changed in a few weeks time after I get some new pictures taken. The Dwarf axeman pack will be getting put as two seperate set's.Leader and troops. That should make it easier for buying units.

I have a show this weekend and one next week too.I am hoping sales go well soI can get some more new pieces released.

Hope this information gives people a little idea of what I have planned. Thanks for the orders and feedback on this little venture of mine.

Yes, I'm digging these. In fact, I have 4 dwarven clans and now I can finally have that fifth Wolf Clan. You mentioned Wolf Warriors. I assume you mean Desert Warriors and these scouts, then you have those wolf Axemen.

Can you consider this though? Can we order the Wolf Axemen on your site where we can order the guy with the wolf pelt on his head separately as he is a great leader model. What if we have an option to order a pack of 3 or a just have each model listed? Consider some option like that.  Same goes when you release the other wolf guys.

I have added names to the dwarf pictures above to make it easier to see what they are intended for.Hope this helps clear up a few things.

The Wolf axemen will be split so that the three warrior types are in one pack and the guy with wolfskin will be sold seperatley. If you make an order and say that you want to swap out the leader types I can sort that no problem.Have done so already for some people.

Need to dig out my Chronopia book and see what else is needed for the dwarves ;0.

First new release for 2014 will be three more Dwarves by Shane Hoyle. Then onto some Goblins by Kev Adams.Way too many pieces stacking up and no money to get them all out.

Thank you sir, my credit card is primed and ready to order. I also noticed your Conan model. I was going to buy Age of Conan board game and thought that fig would be great to buy and then use in my boardgame. In the game (if someone does not know and is curious) you have a single Conan figure and move him around in the game for various reasons. He seems perfect for that purpose.

Yes, please finish the hands and let us know what is holding you up from releasing them sooner than later. Maybe we can help you.

The first Wolf Clan Dwarves i have tried to do at £2.50 a miniature. The new ones will more than likely be £3.00 each with the older one's going up too as they are chunky figures.

I will do the new figures for £2.50 each for forum members for a short while then put the prices up later on.

Really looking forward to seeing the new pieces painted up.
