Title: Do these Imperial models exist?
Post by: aoi cobalt on May 27, 2008, 09:11:32 AM
Do these Imperial models exist, or must they be proxied?
And if proxied, what is best to use to proxie them?
Storm Trenchers.
Smythe-Awelthorpe Sterlings.
Black Berets.

Thanks.

The Storm Trenchers were made into greens, but were never cast that I know of. For my proxies for them, I am converting plastic Imperial Regulars using the pointy Chaos Havoc Jump Packs (blasphemy, yes, I know, but desparate times call for desparate measures).

For the Sterlings and the Black Berets, I would personally use the old Imperial Special Forces packs, and do some arm/weapon swaps.

Hope this helps.

I am going to try to use the regualrs (like you) but I would suggest to try the jet packs from Martian or Wailing Banshees if you have them extra. Shotguns/flamers etc are a different issue altogether.

Jet packs from Banshees might be hard to come by seperate from their figs. Besides according to the artwork in the book the Storm Trenchers have a single tank rocket pack. Frankly a bomb from from a 1:48 scale plane wiht the tail and fins cut off might come the closest to the look in the pix.

As for flamers I reccomend the old GW flamers. They used to have a boxy 1 hand flamer with a promethium bottle below. If I can find one I will try to post a pic btu that will be difficult as I am packing and moving The Sanctum again.  ::)

The shotguns are an easy fix. Remove the clip from the Regular's AR and shift the drum back to the magazine area. Then add a forearm girp made from greenstuff and you have a passable proxy for an Atchison Assault Shotgun. As for what an Atchison is doing so far in the future  - you can't improve on perfection.  ;)

Look closer, Top, buddy.  It is, indeed, a dual-tank, dual-exhaust setup.

For the stormies I used the regulars with jumppacks (as suggested) and then clipped off the base mounts connecting their feet and used some stiff wire to make them look like they're flying.  A few GW flamers help for your specsts.

For the speciality Imperials - I used the old BB figs - COllecting a squad of sgts (with chian swords) does nicely for the Loughton Rams.  For Golden Panthers I used the old BB trooper 4 pack - I chose the BB's w/out masks (painted uniform color scheme) and for Dunsirms I used the troopers WITH the gas masks (painted uniformly again) just to differentiate them.

Y'all are crazy... but I love this board anyways.

Stormtrenchers:

Use the shoota's from GW Orks as they have drum feeds and Plastic Regulars.  Jumpacks can be Wailing Banshee packs, Hasslefree Jet Packs or GW Jump Packs. *shrug*

Sterlings:

I got a bunch of the Old Imperial SF trooper Captains for mine.  An alternate model *could* be a handful of Space Marines with non-helmet heads and the aforementioned Ork Shootas.  They would work well, now I think of it.

Black Berets:

The SMG and Chainblade Imperial SF Sergeants.  There are a number of possible alternate models out there - some of which could be the current SAS figs fro mvarious Manufactuers with a bit of modding and or weapon swaps.  Just a thought.  If you are good with the Greenstuff, snag some of the Catachan plastics, mod the guns (hell, monkeying with Bolters would work) greenstuff Berets and bodyarmor and there you go.

That is... if you agood with the GS. :)
