Title: need help! what are these!

the guys in black are wearing baseball caps
 
the brown ones are wearing football helmets

are they infantry? ACG? is one the blood and guts colonel?

They are the old Capitol light and heavy infantry figs.  They make great Cartel forces or Capitol Freedom Brigades.

Veez is right.

  A neat thing about the old Cap Infantry figs...  They can be Peace Keepers or Security Cop as well as freedom brigade.  I tend to use GW Catachan as they have little armor and are sorta under equiped like the FB's are..

Thnx for putting up those links Semai!  You beat me to the punch.

They're SLIGHTLY smaller - more like Rezolution size.  But that doesn't bug me since the FB's are less armorerd etc.

would it be a sin to use free marines as free brigadiers? i have a bunch of them is the only reason im asking this. or should i use void viridan marines?

They would be great for both.  I added shoulder pads from extra ducal militia figs and used mine as dragoons.

im mostly asking if i could use the free marines i have for free brigadiers (im playing CGF, so no need for marines) if i leave the swords off and convert the sgts. rifles to shotguns, or would that be frowned upon and should i buy some of the viridian marines instead?

I also have used GW bits and will use GW figs (modified of course) as proxies so if you are gonna go after him then ya'll better pack a lunch cause me and Archer won't go down easy.  ;D

Seriously, I have no problem with those that have spent money to purchase figs using them to play my favorite tabletop miniatures game.  It is in tourneys, and such, where I believe that one should show up with painted models from the company that makes the game/models.  That said, and with the state of affairs as it is, currently, play with whatever models make you happy, I say.

So?  Been there, done that, came home with sand in my shoes.  And eventually going back there for vacation...  I need to lose some extra pounds anyway.
