Thanks, so which army do you think shows the most promise color wise, the Elves, or the Stygian, I am about an equal way through both, but the Elves I need to strip my old ones, the stygies, I have some primered and ready.

You're stripping those!!  I think that's great work as is.  I'm going to have a look see in that gallery of yours for some ideas.

The undersea stuff is just wild-what game do you use those for (if any)?

Yeah, what Veez said.  We're shakin' you down for info Glenn.  We'll try to be gentle.   :-\
Title: Re: Glenn's Figures
Post by: Glenn M on February 04, 2008, 05:32:28 PM
I was planning one of two things for the undersea stuff, either write my own small skirmish game (3-4 figures per player) or else do a short RPG campaign.

And no Josh, I am not stripping the Purple elves, but I have elves painted in three other house colors that I need to strip as each has like 3 coats of paint+varnish on them, so they all need stripped to bare metal to make the most out of the new colors.  I'll try to get more pictures of the figures in a couple days.  I am going to have figures from each house painted all the same so I can switch houses without hassle.

Here are the rules I was working on for the Sea Elves.  I was going to call the game Ocean's Deep.

Woohoo, I got a new camera.
I also have a new wind that is making me want to paint some more, so I plan on digging out my elves and starting work on them some more.

Here are some retakes.  I'll try and get a complete set of my elves soon.

Check first post for all the newest pics.

Alright, I added the Howling Moon Swordsmen unit (They still need based and I need to get shield decals for them), some Jaguar Archers from 100 Kingdoms (Maybe Swampy or SoK Proxies?), and an Orc Greatswordsman.

Also, who are the dwarves I have posted?

Finally, who would like to take a stab at helping me design shield decals?  I am not a very good graphics artist and my attempts have all resulted as a pixelated mess, I'd like to stick with the icons I had posted in the Elves of the Howling Moon thread.  They can be simplified if need be.  They just need to fit on the swordsmen style shield.

Added the Militia, I imagine either Axemen or Archers are next depending on which set gets done stripping first.  I must say though, this has been far harder than everyone makes it out to be, stripping minis is a bear, some have been soaking in PineSol for almost 5 days and still are having the paint stuck, I take them out to brush them every dy or two as well.

Well currently (and I mean as I type this) I am working on a home for a family that fit's the theme.  It is based on the following terrain piece, though mine will not turn out nearly as well, it should still be pretty decent.

http://www.terragenesis.co.uk/infopages/page414.html

I also plan to pick up some new hirst molds to complete the armies terrain.

Anyways, thanks, I would like to churn out all of my elves in this theme, with units in all 3 army types.  Then I'll be able to play whatever house I choose with the same figures.

Here is a rough estimate of what I own.

3x Lotus Eaters
1x Swordsmen
3x Spearmen
3 or 4x Axemen
2x Archers
1x Militia
1x Dream Warriors
1x Lotus Guard (In the mail)
2x Dragonbane Scouts
3x Flying Dragonbane (I dunno why I have that many)
3x Crystal Knights
2x Adamantite Golems (Use as Ice Golems or Adamantite depending on who I play)
1x Obsidian Guard
1x Helios Female Unit (Can't recall the name)

So, I have a LONG ways to go.

Thats a nice unit to play with. Lots of options and causes your opponent to be hesitant especially if you have dream warriors with a blue lotus eater and sky chariot.

I don't think I ever lost with my Crystal Lotus actually.

They are super flexible.  Watching your opponent think he is gonna own you with some great spellcaster hanging back, then dropping a unit of Axemen within charging distance is always great fun.

I love my Chronopia, it was actually my first miniature game.

And just for you, here are some WIP pictures of my Elven Home.

EDIT:  See the Elven House thread for details.

Currently, my wife is braiding wire to make the hand rails for the walkway (God, I love that woman) and I am cutting the "wood" trim and then will be cutting the roof shingles, which will be cut as Dragonscale.

Here is an update on the house, I have done most of the roof, I need to do the corner pieces on teh rear, as well as a topper.  There shall also be a chimney that is currently not present.  The railing and wall detail is still being worked on.  The wife got rather sick so I haven't had a ton of time.  All the roof was cut out while watching Smallville (Season 1 for $20, I figured, how bad can it be, I am liking it so far)

EDIT:  See Elven House thread for details.

Though I realized I forgot something very important.  I forgot a door to the upstairs, so I am gonna fake it onto the front, and try to get it look like it belongs sticking out.

Well, I did the Keeper of the Flame leader in the House of the Howling Moon style, I think she came out great, however, I had a horrid time photographing her, and I am not sure why.

She looks a bit better in person, she looks a bit washed out here.

I am pretty happy about the colors, I didn't have to go outside my normal library for my Howling Moon figures, and at the same time, they look very Helios.  I am going to be doing figures from all the houses in these colors so I can play any army I want with little effort.  I even thought about theming my Swampies in a similar fashion, but I don't think I will.

Once I finish this unit, I'll try to get an army shot or two.

Here are a few new shots, I did up an Axemen and a Lotus Guard, the Lotus Guard is just a test piece for now.  He turned out alright, but I am not certain I like him yet.

Believe it or not, the skin tone is really easy.

Folk Art Medium Gray highlighted with a concrete gray color (not sure of the brand as the label is destroyed, the paint must be a good 5 years old though)  Eyes are white.

Man, I'm on a roll, here is the Crystal Knight, I just finished.

I am really happy with his backpiece.  The shading turned out quite well.

Shameless thread update.

I started doing my Dragonbane Warkiller today, but had to post the Bane himself as I am so exceited about him and know the rider may take a little while.

So, check him out, I am pretty proud of everything about this figure (save the basing, lol) probably one of my best mounts EVAR!!!11one

The Kanji on the banner says Howl Moon, so Howling Moon.  And the Kanji on his leg says Curse or Disaster, which was as close to Bane as I could come.  I figure that is the Dragonbanes name.

The banners are actually really easy, I cut graph paper to the size I wanted, then put white glue on each half, then folded it over the poles.  I think stuff like that really adds to a model.  Anyways, thanks for the comments I appreciate them.

Blackroot Treant from D&D Miniantures, keep in mind, his base is 3" across.  Could be a good summon for the Swampies.

This is not my character, this is a Spikeshell Warrior from Reaper, I am playing with the idea of Washer baseplates, but have not finished this ones base (That is really my vice, I am bad about finishing bases)

Anyways, I have had his shell done for quite some time, but never got around to the rest of him, I just did tonight, and am very happy with the final product.   I finished him maybe 2 minutes ago.  I think some of the paint was still wet, lol.

This is Eladrel of the Fallen Wood.  His home was burnt to the ground and now his is a Sorcerer whose expertise is natural magic, not a druid though, he is far too vengeful and was never gifted in divine magic.  This is my Character/NPC in my current D&D campaign (3.5-ish, Planescape setting).  He is currently playing a sideline role as the players become better acquainted, most have not played in years.

These are the Sheildwall Games Armies of Mythology figures, Raven Guard.  They come with a variety of weapons (Ceremonial Staffs, Spears and Shields) and can be fitted with other things.

They are also Jaffa from Stargate.  These are decent figures, not the best I have seen, but paint very easily and are great at arms length.  I could see myself gathering a decent sized army of these for fantasy games actually, just use the fantasy weapons and do some converts, they also have Wadjet (serpent) heads, but they were out when I placed my initial order.

I've got some of those Drakesnails from Dreamblade, so I know exactly what they look like in hand.  Great work on them.  I like them as well.

I cut mine from their bases entirely with a hobby knife, but it looks like you just worked around it like it was no big deal.  Applaud button in effect.

feels weeeeird posting in the chronopia section, but i wanted to mention somert some may find interesting. the character for "howl" incorporates the character for "dog" on the right, and i think a variant of "moon" for the left, though im not entirely sure of that one.  as for the character for "bane," it contains the character for "fire." fitting. nice fig too.

I was probably talkikng about the big lizard - I love what you've done with the banners and tattoo's.

That poor dragonbane, I finished him and never got the picture, then he had a bottle of white paint dumped on him, got mostly cleaned up, got super glue dumped on him by my son, got mostly cleaned up, then dropped on the floor, twice.  He is currently in around 8 pieces.

I should note that should he ever be fully repaired he'll be the army mascot for destruction.

Some of these figures need to be based, others need rebased, etc.

Water Elemental (D&D Miniatures 3rd Edition Pewter, pre-Chainmail)  This must be the best Water Elemental I have ever seen, and is still my favorite.

Female Barbarian (Reaper) I painted this figure to be edited to be a bit more appropriate for a younger player, my niece has joined us in Heroquest and is 7, i felt she should have a figure that doesn't look like a slut.
