Title: Warzone Stat Cards
Post by: CmdrKiley on December 21, 2007, 10:43:08 AM
I've been working on making stat cards for some time.  I've always wanted to make stat cards as I find they're more flexible than Armybuilder, when you're prepping for an impromtu game at a hobby store or at a convention.  I've always liked the format found with Rezolution, Warmachine and D&D Miniatures very helpful as they have pictures and the special rules explained on the cards.  Not only are these helpful of most players, but I find it very helpful for beginners who aren't familiar with all the special rules and cannot identify the models.  Over the past several years I've attempted to make ones for Warzone but were unable to find a format that worked best.  After making some custom cards for Rezolution, No Limits, Dark Age and Starship Troopers I've found a format that seems to work.

The sample of the Cybertronic People's Volunteer Sergeant has all the stats for the model and his gear, the special rules are explained on the back and a photo of the model is included.  I've varied the border and font colors and styles for each faction for easier identification as well.

I've also made some upgrade cards as well, for Channeling and upgrades, I plan to do munitions and weapon loadouts next.  These can be paperclipped onto the appropriate model with all the rules explaining the model's new enhancement.

I've just completed the last army list today, The Templar Horde, and would be happy to share these with the Warzone community.  However these PDF files are a bit large and beyond the limits of posting here.  If an administrator could grant me a larger file access (3 mb) or I can post these for me, I'd be happy to share them.  I'm also looking forward to having some other sets of eyes, whom have been playing the game quite regularly check my work to see if I've got all the FAQ and Erratta updates included.

CmdrKiley,

I would be happy to host them on my server at work and link back to them from here.  Email them to:

Kiley's cards are awesome.  He sent me a sample - and they're not only nice looking but a great game aid.

Thanks for the compliment WarzoneD.

One thing is that I'm short of is photos of the models.  Preferably studio photos.  I used some of my own but most of those existing photos had some backgrounds.  I'm going to have to setup a white background and reshoot all my models I guess.  However I figured it was best for now to get the stat cards done, so that they could be reviewed and used for play.  Actually I'm dying to get away from the computer and get back to painting and gaming.

BTW, that reminds me I have to shoot my completed Wolfpack army and finish up my Samurai and Dragon Riders.

NoTrollNick

The man put in alot of hard work and all you can do is critcize?

If you dont like the cards.. then dont use them!  Some other may find them helpful. Some may use them and some just might make a suggestion that actually helps without bringing down the mans efforts. If you dont like the cards then dont use them. If you dont like the rules for the game..heres a hint..... DONT PLAY IT!!!!!!

Edited for content.

Guys - I'm asking - nicely - that this stops here.

@ Philly -
Take a mintute and count to 10. Then I am asking that you edit yourself. I understand where you are coming form but let's not go there.

@ NoTroll -
Don't even think about responding. IF Philly doesn't self edit let us take care of it.

I agree that CmdrKiley has worked hard. If the cards aren't your cup of tea then that's your call. I don't like to use them personally but my comment to CmdrKiley is nice work and some karma. My suggestion would be "Have you thought of doing Squad cards where the Troopers, Sgt and Specs are all included on the same card? I am asking you both to cool it so we don't have to lock the thread. That would be a dis-service to the hard work CmdrKiley has done.

I actually tried a few years back to do cards that had all the squad members on one card.  It turned into too much information.  In fact if you look at some of the vehicle and mounted unit cards, they start getting a bit busy themselves.  Also there wasn't enough room to fit all the rules onto one card, I ended up with multiple cards or just an 8.5x11 sheet anyways.  Furthermore, it got more complex when you have upgrade options for troops and other upgrade options for squad leaders and specialists.  I tried this with Starship Troopers as well.

However, this format is the same as Rezolution, which none of my fellow gamers have had an issue with.  They have seperate cards for squad leaders and specialists as well.  It also makes it easier to generate all the different cards when you have only a few standard formats.  After a while it becomes a matter of copying and pasting.

Also now with upgrades and spells, these become seperate cards which can be paperclipped onto the appropriate card to determine who has what upgrade.

Another advantage with the cards is that by putting them in a sleeve with the an opaque backside, they can be used for blind deployment, and later the cards can be tipped to determine who's been activated.

Anyways, I've found it to be a useful tool in playing many of the games we play as well as teaching the game to other people.  With the way UWZ book is layed out, I'd think this would help more than any other game.  Anyways, I've been hoping to share this with the other players.  I'd have to thank Warzoned, for peaking my interest again with Warzone with his campaing rules (BTW, I still owe you my comments, sorry for the delay).  That really got me started on working on these again.

I wondered if that might have been the reason.

It sounds as if you have thought this trhu and have made all the right calls. While I may never use them - I have never used the Warzone deployment cards either  ;D - I recognize and appreciate all the hard work you have done and hope eveyone here gives you the proper credit you deserve.

Hi CmdrKiley,

Have you thought of doing Squad cards where the Troopers, Sgt and Specs are all included on the same card?

i feel that too many cards counters the effect of reducing effort during play.

Links to Stat Cards
The Stat Card Folder link takes you to an online folder with a listing of all the files and they can be directly opened from there or right and save target as to save them.  Individual links are also listed in alphabetical order beneath the Stat Card Folder Link.  You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader to view these as they are all PDF's.  The largest are about 5 megs in size.

Thanks Seamus.

The Dark Legion is a bit Dark Blue, dosn't show up very well with the black background.  Perhaps a lighter shade of blue would work better.

I noticed a minor error in the Brotherhood file, just forgot to paste the Pole Arm special rules for the Castigators.  While I was at it, I thought I'd try putting the 'Warzone' logo on the cards and clean up some minor formatting issues.  Please point out any errors or recommendations in this thread.  I'll bundle them together and redo them in batches.

So in the meantime the later revisions will have

Warzone logo over the photo of the model.
Black Line over the card title removed
More photos of the models included as I get more available.
I'd like to find a cleaner way to make the crewed weapons and mounted units format.  I've tried several variations and this was the best I could come up with at the time.  I may find a better format later and revise them all.

BTW, I stopped at Equipment.  Not sure whether is was worth making cards for them or not as the stats are assigned to the specific models that have them.  I suppose they could be used for specific scenario based upgrades.  Let me know if it's worthwhile.

These are gorgeous.  Was wondering -- Any chance anyone can print me a copy and mail it?

I am happy to pay for it.

My printer is all jacked at present and prob. not going to be able to buy a new one for a few weeks (Xmas and all wiped me out).

Thnx and Happy New Year--

I can't get them!  :'(

Every time I click the link for the parent directory I get sent to the page ok but when I try to open them individually all I get is a blank page!

Right clicking isn't helping either as I don't get a 'Save Target' option.

Can anyone help, I really want to be able go give these cards to the lads here.

Try again.  I don't know how long you waited but these files are anywhere from 3-5.5 megs in size.  Also, do you have Adobe Acrobat Reader 7 or higher?  If not, you need to download it from ADOBE (http://www.adobe.com)

I have the settings on the web server set so that you cannot right click and save target for security purposes.

GREAT work, these will really come in handy, better then having to flick through that great big rule-book especially the extra rules and weapons cards.

I did notice on a few of the files that there are blank sheets is this intensional?

Also the semai file seems to be corrupt towards the end quite apt really  ;D

I started doing a force recognition sheet ages ago but these are perfect as it shows a picture of the actual miniature so my gaming buddies can easily identify what's what.

Back into sci-fi again after a stint in the WWII Peter Pigs 'Poor Bloody Infantry'

All I need to do now is print them out and laminate each card.

Oh and BTW, for those of you who are looking to store all those cards, I've been making stat card storage cases.

My FLGS does a lot of World of Warcraft CCG business.  I'm not a card flipper so I don't know why but they take all the starter boxes and take one deck of cards (I guess that's where all the rare cards are in) and throw out the rest.  Well I've been collecting the card cases that are scrapped.  The case is about the size of a standard DVD case but thicker than a VHS case.  It has a clear outer sleeve allowing you to remove the WoW sleeve and slip in your own.  Inside the the case is two compartments that can hold a deck of cards in each.  On the inside of the cover are clips to hold a small booklet, thick templates or a cheat sheet, and a clip for a dry erase pen.  Each of the card deck compartments can be removed so that you can put something larger (like a small bag of dice or markers) inside of it (even line it with foam and use it to store minis).

Pictured here is an example of the card case I made for my CSO Crew for Rezolution, I removed one compartment so I can hold 1 deck of stat cards, a bunch of dice and markers, my templates, a cheat sheet and a dry erase pen.

I've made a template to make covers for this and have made covers for Rezolution, Dark Age and now I'm working on Warzone and Urban War.

So the next time there's a new release of WoW cards, check with your FLGS and see if they have any cases left.  If you can't find any, I've seen some of the Pirates of the Carribean CCG starter sets a dollar store, so you can probably buy them fairly cheap.

OK fixed the files, sorry for the long delay, and just emailed them to Seamus.  I broke them down into smaller files based on each directorate as well.

You'll notice some tweaks I did to these cards.

- Added Warzone Logo
- Filled in blank card spaces with duplicates of common individuals

Let me know if there's any other things I can add.  Also, if you happen to have any photos of models that I'm missing email them to me or post them here and I'll add them to the cards as I go around tweaking them.

I have a question: Why have these reference cards and go through all that trouble when you list the RC 9 but then list the weapon below and list a -2 in the CC or a +1 in PB, since you know the RC score and the CC score why not just write the weapon-modified value in the box where you use to have just the modifier?

For example you'd list 5 for the CC value for that first weapon on the cybertronic trooper and so on and so forth. Then you can look at the various weapons and know immediately what your weapon-modified score is and then only need to deal with occasional modifiers like Cover, spells that effect your model, stuff like that which doesn't come up on every single roll like weapon modifiers do. Precalculation is your friend, a potentially huge time saver during a game.

To All

Sorry for the delay on the box covers.  I was reminded of it yesterday but we had a power outage last night so computer activities dropped to about nothing.

To Horned God

Adding up all that would make things easier for the player, until you get into some special situation where the RC value may change or vary with certain weapons.  However when you're making up several hundred stat cards and wish time to play and paint, you need some sort of standardization.  Namely I made the weapons in a template and copied and pasted the appropriate weapons onto each stat card.  Same with the special ability rules and even some of the stats.  Some minor customizing was needed for an occasional unit that didn't quite fit the standard template.

Furthermore:
1)  It's standard to what's in the book
2)  It's standard to what's in Army Builder
3)  It's standard with other game systems

Had I been adding up all the traits and doing all the pre-calculations, we wouldn't be discussing this because I'd still be working on them.

This link should get you to the cards, if you have any problems, let me know.  Just right click on each document and choose Save Target As to download

Stat Card Folder (https://www.pesi.us/stat%20cards)

My sincere apologies for it being down this long.  When our new web site at work was ready to go live, we had put it on a new web server as well and missed moving the document folder over so that you guys could access it.

BTW, I'm currently looking for a new position, and I will try to find another home for the stat cards before I leave present company.

Hmm, is anybody else having troubles with those darn files? It's not the file-hosting but rather the files themselves. For example the Semai-file isn't complete and there seems to be some kind of faulty type in the file. Am I the only one getting these faults or is it the files?

but it is part of the pdf and no problem.

also shows

finally (no critic) the file was i think done with hand & perhaps in PPT or even word.
-> e.g. the dissident leader right weapon box did not fit and was placed over the black borders & over the card edge.
-> the tables are imperfect with overlapping vertical lines sometimes. i saw that in my thesis when converting from word->pdf.

=> yes, they are still just a beta. no readig problem.

*offtoppic* i collected ~4 GB MC (wz&chr) stuff (mutantpedia) + many other sources.

mostly sorted, but not complete, esp. chronopia.
also included are several stat card versions (i will add this files :)).

i am a total torrent-uploading-noob, if someone is interested in the package & wants to help me, post or PM!

Looks like the server that Seamus had my files up on is down.  It looks as though this forum has the ability to upload files, but only up to 128 kB per file.  However when I attempted to upload the Cybertonic cards with Dr. Dianna, I got the message that there was no room to upload files.  I just tried to upload the page with just Dr. Dianna, which is only 70 kB and got the same problem.

Who's the administrator here?

Did a check on the cards for Bauhaus:

Major Max Steiner: His PC 606 has on SR only 0x2, not 1x2 as stated.
The Dragoon Sgt has a MW of 10 and a LD of 12 instead of 9 and 11.
The Romanov Blitzer FT Spec has a PW of 5 not 4.
The Viktor has a VA 74a Autocannon and not an MG 90 and thus the stats aren´t correct.
The Jaeger Captain has the stats of the troopers and not hte stats for the Kpt: CC10,RC12,PW5,LD15,AC3,WD2,ST5,MW3,AR21,SZ2.
The Venusian Ranger FT Spec has a RC of only 8.
The Venusian Marshal is truly House Saglielli, not Bernheim.
The Etoiles Mortant Kpt has 3 WD, not 2.

Hope I got ´em all ;-)

What's MW???

Also - it's odd the FT Spec is such a lousy shot compared to his fellows, isn't it?

That´s why double checking is so important... it should read MV for movement. And in the case of the Dragoons I´m in some other listing where MW was the stat for the M issile W eapons.
And I just saw that the named Viktor was naturally the Viktor RLP where a MG 90 was listed instead of the Va 74a.
Hope that didn´t throw it in disorder....

And with the FT the Ven. Ranger Spec hasn´t to be a good shot...

Either he´s tge one who couldn´t hold a broom straight and that´s why he got the FT or he got his first flamer for his 2nd birthday and never learned to aim  ;D

Here is what I’ve found in Imperial cards......

Trencher Sgt            Deadshot is in the SA description(right side), but not in SAs list(left)

Stormtren. HMG,FT   Different RC stats from the Book

ISC Handler      Page 249: ISC Iron Mastiffs

The Handler should be listed as “Grunt squad leader, required 1 per squad, mortal.”
The Mastiffs should read “Grunt trooper, required 2-4 per squad, special.”
The Mastiffs should have a special notes section which reads: “Mastiffs are immune to
issues of moral, but their handler is affected like any other mortal. If their handler
becomes broken or killed, the mastiffs will immediately halt in place. They cannot act
independently. They cannot activate unless they are commanded by a handler.”

Imperial Colonel           Force Commander is in the SA description(right side), but not in SAs list(left)

Sean Gallagher           PC should be changed to 51, sword is considered slashing damage

Wolfbane Chieftan   has Punisher shortsword stats instead of UBGL stats listed

Blood Beret HMG   has Agressor Sidearm stats listed, but shouldn’t have

Gray Ghost           I really really miss this lady in the cards  ;)

Sterling FT Spec.   PC should be 38

Black Beret Sgt.     CC 10, PC 29

Golden Lion LMG Spec.   PC should be 30

Golden Lion Demo Spec.   Has stats for Gehenna Puker listed (which i would fancy, but other mates would find it unfair  :P )

Pathfinders+Warhounds   have new stats listed in Warzone FAQ tread here on the forums

Hi everyone...

I asked a few months ago for the stat cards, and despite a brilliant work, the format of the cards I received did not match my expectations (no offense here, just my personal taste).

I decided to use the current stat cards as a a basis to match -more or less- Excelsior's Stat Cards template. Because I am an Imp player, I only did Imperial cards (and will do no more...), but in cas anyone of you is interested, I provide my work in the links below. Anyone who may use this template for another army would be  welcome to provide his contribution to the WZ community. (that's why the cards are provided as Word files and not PDFs).

The stats should include the last Imp. updates, but please feel free to check if you DL it.

Here are the links :
IDMF: http://9giga.sfr.fr/n/50-17/share/LNK84524b323c9d68843/
Clans: http://www.neufgiga.com/n/50-17/share/LNK59174b36964a72ee1/

Coming soon: load-outs

CardBack :
http://9giga.sfr.fr/n/50-17/share/LNK80154b323cd8cecdc/

The CardBack should exactly fit the cards : just reverse the paper (at least it worked perfectly on my printer).

I am using a 220g paper sheet (looks like a thin cardboard) and it is perfect for WZ cards. It can be purchased on ebay for a few bucks.

Regards,

Twinky

CardBack: http://9giga.sfr.fr/n/50-17/share/LNK80154b323cd8cecdc/

I will add soon the last file, covering most of the loadouts (corp, sniper and elite). That should be my last contribution to the stat cards, because I honnestly have no time to cover every corp (it is quite time-consuming). Again, anyone interested should feel free to use the templates for its own purpose.

Regards,

Twinky.

To Cmdr.Kiley and others who have worked on/posted the cards:
Thank you all for your hard work. I was looking through the cards, and I love the way they're done. As a newbie, when I look at troop stats in my book, I generally have to then flip back to the "Abilities" section to see what "Camouflage" or "Deadshot" do; having the abilities spelled out right there on the card makes it so much easier. These are great. Thanks again. Have some Karma.
