Title: Generic Imperial Sniper
Post by: Dragon62 on November 25, 2005, 02:42:38 PM
I was wondering if there is any chance of a generic Imperial Sniper model in the future?

Just take a trencher sniper and paint him white with "sniper" on one shoulder pad and a barcode on the other.

Dave i'd like to get 2 snipers made from the new blood beret models. I'am going to make a squad of Dunsim Hunters. And no I dont want to use the trencher sniper (destroyer LMG). I personally dont like that model as a sniper. Thanks Phil

Well he would be cheaper then a normal sniper, since he's the "No Frills" Sniper.  (Maybe "No Frills" is just a Pathmark thing...)

I'll see what I can do...the Trencher does look like he's carrying the Destroyer, not the Assailant.

If you can get your hands on an old style GW plastic lasgun and one of the scope bits then you have everything you need. Cut the weapon barrel down and then dremel a small hole. Then make a peg on the end of the old lasgun and assemble. then attach a scope and viola - instant sniper.

I'll post pics of the WIP.  So far, it looks good.  The Assailant is very similar to the Invader - remove the grenade clip, under barrel, and the front iron sights, shorten the clip a little, and lengthen the rifle barrel then add a cool scope.  You'll have a Dunsim Hunter sniper with Assailant Sniper Rifle.

I am using one of the Blood Beret (new) troopers in hipshot stance.  That way, I don't need to worry about the stock as it is hidden under the models' right arm.

First pics tomorrow, I promise.

for my Dunsirn snipers, I took the Blood Beret that has the gun p to his face in firing position, cut the tip of the barrell off, used a pin vise, and made an extended barrell with a craft nail that sticks out about 1/4" from the end of the gun.

this is just long enough to make it obvious from the rest of the squad.

Blood Berets...the other multi-purpose unit

he is...my Trencher sniper was still packaged from when I bought it in 1998...

the package said Imperial Trencher w/LMG...

B.
not that I'm complaining...the Assailant is much better than the Destroyer...

Why do the Imperial weapons just sound like they want to hurt something?  Invader, Assailant, Destroyer,  Jimmy Dean Pork-Sausage Repeater, Agressor, Mandible?  At least they have a good Marketing department.

Don't worry, Capitol has the highly experimental, Rack Mounted Shoulder Fired Beef Jerky  Recoiless Rifle, the "Beef Bazooka" and after extensive testing by Big "Snap Into a SLimJIM" Bob Watts, the newer model will feature advanced fire control and targetting systems as well as your choice of regular, plain and EXTRA SPICEY munitions.

Stage one:

Remove grenade drum, front iron sights, and barrels from Invader AR.  This is a ratehr easy operation.  An Exacto, snips or Dremel will do the job.

it's a very British thing...

HMS Dauntless, HMS Invincible, HMS Suicidal Insanity...

Stage two:

Clean up the lines and such where front iron sites were removed.  Add detail to under barrel where grenade drum was removed.  Drill small hole for barrel placement.

hmmm.... I think I can get my hands on a few spare Blood Berets... I may have to do this conversion.
Title: Re: Generic Imperial Sniper
Post by: dmcgee1 on November 27, 2005, 01:15:17 PM
Stage three:

As a conversion goes, this could be considered done.  I want to make the scope look a bit more like the Assailant's scope from the book.

Phil, let me know what you think.

looks great to me, dude!  The additions to the scope are sweet, and really bring it together. :)

I'm assuming that the weapon has the full length silenced barrel as represented by the thickness of the barrel and the markings on the nail?
Title: Re: Generic Imperial Sniper
Post by: Veez on November 28, 2005, 10:29:41 PM
It's not the size of the barrel but... oh nevermind.

Or, we could just say I used a paperclip that happened to already have ridges in it - potayto, potahto

Silencing a sniper rifle seriously hampers it range, and, therefore, it's effectiveness.  Consider the markings as vents, to help compensate for muzzle lift, thereby improving accuracy.

I figure there's so much lead flying on a WZ field, that trying to pick out a sniper by sound would be tough.

I was just making an observation - I didn't mean to offend anyone. As for silencing and range if anyone remembers way back when the forums were merely a message board (Mike Murtha days) I was the guy who posted the thread on how silencers would and should effect range in game play. I had an alternate range chart worked out for sniper rifles based on whether the silencer was a screw on or intregal to the barrel design.

that sounds pretty cool, and I was thinking of a "one guy against everyone" type game, do you still have a copy of those rules floatin' around?  I'd certainly like to look 'em over.

Just remember that Cleveland was (and according to some still is) the mistake by the lake, then you should be able to remember the geography.

Wait......did I just provide you with a tip as to how the BHoodies can route me out!  :o  Looks like it's time to go back into seclusion again with the rest of the cult.
