Post by: Topkick on November 22, 2005, 06:12:05 AM
It's time to begin planning for Origins 2006. If you are planning on attending Origins please PM me and let me know. Also let me know if you are just wanting to play or if you want to assist Excelsior and if so in what way.

The dates are from 28 June thru 02 July and the web addy is http://www.originsgames.com/

I hope to have 5 - 6 Warzone and 5 - 6 Chronopia events approved for inclusion in the pre-reg and then add at least a few more of each for the on-site book

Would it be possible to grab a table in the wargaming room to use for "pick up games"? So that way, if someone decides to take the plunge and buy some minis, we could have a thing of Krazy glue there so they can put 'em together, and maybe play a quick game with their new guys.

Been discussed - What's everybody think about it?

I think that it's a good idea...it might also be nice to have someone there painting some of the more common minis to show people how easy it is to paint the minis to a basic level (what they do from there is their own perogative)...

and if nothing else, it'll give people something to watch and do(the painting) and then they can play right there, and get familiar with the rules.

that was my thought about it...I've been to that English-only game fair held out on the east coast, and they had a small area off to the side of the convention hall in which people could go and assemble, prime and start getting some color on new minis...

Now, I'm not suggesting sitting off to the side of the display area behind the gaming tables spraying enough primer to get all of the EE people high on fumes (remember kiddos, huffing is BAD), but I think that if someone was sitting there painting some pre-primed minis, the people standing around watching the new player demos can see how easy it is to get the minis painted to a resonable level...

The more events and more varied events that we can adequetly man and run the better.  I don't see a prob with this.

If I'm there, count me in!

Chances are, I'll mostly be signed up for Warzone stuff anyway. :)

"Don't lean on the Swede!"

That's an old addage I heard growing up... apparently they don't like it. ;)

Seriously, if he could pay the cash to make it, I couldn't do any less than the same (even though I am extremely poor).

Yes it is an ancient saying, in Swedish it goes "Dun't leun oon zee Svede" there is a second line however "hut cheecks ixcepted frum zee roole".  ;)

I would love to go to one of the big American cons and meet all the great people from the forums. The cost is one problem, although it could probably be overcome, the bigger problem is motivating said expense and time to Mrs Coil. :)

Now if anyone can arrange to have a health economics conference arranged in Ohio the week before or after Origins it would be great because then I could get my boss to pay the trip. :)

Looks like things are moving along nicely. Just one word to those that don't have reservations yet. MAKE THEM.  I looked into rooms over the week end and there are very few left within walking distance. I was lucky to get one at the Crowne.

See ya all in Colombus. I'll be there with my SOK's and My Bauhaus.

I'll be at Origins teaching sculpting classes and would be happy to help out with painting demos during the show.

Have bought my badge for Origins again this year was balancing out Origins vs Gen con.  I guess there will be a tourney for both games this time again.  Also is the after tournament large scale Muntant Chronicles game going to be dabbled with using the large figures.
I got my room at the Hyatt which is attached to the convention center.  So far it is me and my friend Tom (says he may have a buddy coming along) staying but could open up for floor space if need too.  Just let me know.  Rate is standard as on the con page so could be spilit 3 or 4 ways pending on what is happening.

I guess i need to figure out how to use these tribes of Job I acquired for a battle there.  Or can they be incorparted into the Brotherhood force as allies or friends or what ever they are called.

Are the UWZ and Chronopia events gonna get spread out this year over the entire con or just on fri and sat like last time?

Dave

Hmmm read that new art for brotherhood could be interesteing in the teleport flame and get intiat next round and now take dmg from being shot at from suriviors of the flame temp.

The events should be spread out fairly evenly.  I've been in frequent contact with Topkick in an effort to balance the scheduling of events.  They'll be posted here as soon as everything is finalized with GAMA.

I posted this in another thread but I want to post it here also -

Origins is still in the works and I hope to be in touch with Thom soon. Currently there are several Warzone and several Chronopia events that are being scheduled. I will also be running some LoS events and my Legions of Steel/Warzone scenario. These are being hosted by the Midwest Crusaders. Our motto is "We are on a mission from Thom" .

Topkick,

I just secured the time off from work. Don't know when, but I'll be there Wednesday night sometime. The Ohio crew play tested the senerio. Things went quite well. Not sure yet, but, I may need some help with figs for the Con. I have my SOK, and I should have access to Firstborn, Blackbloods and Dwarves. I'm not sure as to what will be painted and game ready though. I'll keep you posted.

See You at the Con.

I was thinking along the lines of I got the sci fi sets from dwarven forge to build some layouts.  Also have copies or mutant chronicles board game and blood berets too wonder if there is anyway to incorprate the two together or can even bring them along and play them straight up if anyone is interested.

About making a game using UWZ rules and converting down the ranges to the squares in on the floor tiles and have some scenarios of maybe small fire teams go in and retieve item and get out or more of a small scale one on one quick death type shoot out or make it where sever different factions all arrive at set place  to retireve something and free for all battle no alliances or partner ships.  I know this was done sorta on the trounament last year for the large scale battles.  Might draw some new blood in seeing how you can adapt the rules to more of a 1 on 1 combat thing instead having to field a small army and such.

Just a idea to be thrown out there and also let me know if I should bring the two board games along with.

Make the meeting engagement mostly scouts or light troopers, light inf, with maybe one major character as support or leader.

Also along the lines of the Novels that were written.
Btw anyone got a copy of the third one by stackpole that I can eitehr borrow to read or buy.   or trade for something.
I have the other first two but have yet to find the third at reasonable price.

Only 2 weeks away now!  Where's all the excitement?  Come on guys, there will be 5 Crusaders there with our buddies (I'm bringing two car loads of people with me), running 15 scheduled events, plus unlimted amounts of pick-up games.  On top of that I'm considering bringing one of my copies of SotC.  Tonight my MC group even talked me into running an all night scenario one of the evenings  :o.  Come on let's get some hype going!  Who's with me?
