Title: fire mission
Post by: masherking on November 01, 2005, 09:25:01 AM
Ok I read my rulebook so I think I some how keep missing it.
Is there a point cost for fire mission.
and I guess you can only use it once during a mission?

I would like to add this opition to my dark legion army list but not so sure how?
I know nephrite and/or force commander calls a mission and is also a spotter.

thanks for any help

No point cost.

Mark the location during the first turn and call it in during the next turn.  Maybe be used once per turn.

Nepharites count as Forward Observers for Dark Legion purposes.
It only requires One action to place a FM marker as opposed to all actions for regular FO's

Otherwise the same critieria is  required

1 Force Commander
3 Officers/individuals
6 Squads

Don't go too crazy.  You can't use the unused actions to add chits and the FM has to come in on the next turn.

(i'm tryin to think of any other clarifications you need to know about)

Thats OK I wont get crazy ::)

so lets see

1. a force commander (Nepharites) can use only one action to place a chit within 16"
for one fire mission, once a turn.
check.

2. the requirments  to have a force commander (Nepharites) on a army list is as fellows
1 Force Commander
3 Officers/individuals
6 Squads
check.

anything else I'm missing.

Well, you're missing the fact that Fire Missions deviate the old-fashioned way - i.e., they always do full damage when they hit, but the amount you miss the roll by and the direction of the die-facing deterines exactly where it lands.

Multiple forward observers can place extra chits on the same location to increase the chance of the mission succeeding on the following turn.

Which Force are you using?

Not all Nepharites are Force Commanders.

And Karak is too insane to be allowed to tie his shoes, much less call in Fire Missions

from the FAQ

"A Nepharite is considered a Forward Observer in any DL army. For one action, he may target any spot within 16” and LOS. This painted spot will become the focus of the particular fire mission represented by that Apostle. Any Division Commander or Nepharite may then call down the mission subsequently. Obviously, the Cults and the Horde do not have Fire Mission options."

Hey, I'm playing Capitol and was thinking of using the Fire Missions.

You guys tell me that Nepharites pull FM off with just one action.
Do the Corps' still have to use all three actions of their Forward Observer?

Also on the next round, when "the strike is called down", does the FO have to maintain LOS to the target all the way from placing the chit? I was thinking of putting some meatshield from same squad in front of the poor fella, and when activated, the meatshield would just sidestep out of the way, giving mr.FO the LOS to the target.

Since I will be having the 6 squads with my Cap. I might just take 3 or 4 infantry units with FO each. Also a Sea Lions squad with their high-LD-FO. Then maybe a lot of Rangers or Wailing Banshee squad for trying to push my enemy on the other side of the table. By hopefully making some thick crowd back there, charge the infantry forward and pull of the strike.

I know this is ridiculously hard to do, but it might be just fun, also might be very useful in some capture the flag or king of the hill scenario!

Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Corp FO's still require three actions.

If there is no LOS to the FO during the turn following the one where the first marker is placed  the Fire Mission is aborted.

I was thinking of demnogonis.

I'm pretty sure Nepharite of demnogonis is legal, at least I hope so :-\

Ok, BUT ->

Can I use the 3 ac to place the chit, THEN move meatshield in front.
Next turn: activate the squad, move the meatshield outta way, acquire the los to my FO, commence firing.

Or do I have to have LoS all the way from chit placing to LD-check for bringing down the bombs?

steve-

For Demno you have to have either Mortis or Shrekal as your Force Commander and three other Officer/Individuals (Nepharites, the Voice or whatever).

Any Officer/Individual of Division level or higher can then bring it in.

Can I use the 3 ac to place the chit, THEN move meatshield in front.
Next turn: activate the squad, move the meatshield outta way, acquire the los to my FO, commence firing.
yes,  you  only have to have LOS to Relay the target (the first chit) and then you only need LOS again when you're actually makin the LD test to see where it hits.  So yes, keep that antenna wavin bugger alive any way you can.

At the risk of being labelled a moron, since DL and Brotherhood both use supernatural abilities to call in FM does that meant the Brotherhood Fo only has to use one action to call it in too?????????????

Sorry but even the FAQ isn't exactly clear on this.

The Channeling Brotherhood model still requires all three actions to be spent.
