Title: Underground battles
Post by: joshuaslater on October 25, 2005, 07:23:15 AM
How do you work movement in underground battles?  I'm gettin' ready to run a game where my Dwarves actually have home field advantage and I have a few questions about Subterranean Warriors, and movement.  They suffer no movement penalty through rough terrain underground, but cannot run through rough terrain.  What exactly is rough terrain underground and how would you represent it?  Can any model run underground in the dark at all?  Is the whole environment considered terrain in that everyone has a movement penalty and can't run that isn't a Dwarf?

I'm not using the hazard effects yet.  I want to see how a battle is run in a large cavern.

Can't wait for the Tunnel Fighters!

Rough terrain underground would be things like rubble and other obstructions, thick mushroom clusters, etc... Much like the above ground version. Depending on what it is you can use larger rocks, wood chips (which are lighter, pillars, vines, etc...

Page 107 covers the issues of hazards and light. As for movement, treat it the same as listed for rough terrain, ie- movement is halved.

As for running, if the terrain is limiting because it is rough, the model may not run. If the model has a skill that allows passage at regular movement through rough terrain of a certain type, they still may not run. The XX Warrior descriptions should have specified that better.
