Spirit of Ubuntu
Capitol, Mishima, Bauhaus, Imperial. These are the names of the 4 Mega-Corporations that divided the Earth and explored the stars. However, forgotten in history, was a 5th corporation. Not as large or powerful as the others, it nonetheless controlled a continent.
Ubuntu.
When the Corporations decided to land their deathblow onto the Earth, almost every corner of the cradle of mankind was destroyed utterly. Only one area managed to be spared the full wrath of the Corporations. Sub-Saharan Africa. The various nation states of the Dark Continent were too busy bickering amongst themselves to be bothered with the mass exodus of the best and brightest of the Corporations. When those who were left behind threatened to destroy Luna, the countries of Africa refused to aid them. For their choice, they were spared the worst of the chemical, nuclear, and kinetic death that rained from the sky. The only force that unified the various nation states and cities of Africa was the largest African corporation, Ubuntu Incorporated. Ubuntu made most of it’s money outsourcing their employees to the other Mega-Corporations. Whereas Bauhaus was hesitant to mine their own diamonds for the drills that they were bringing to Venus, Ubuntu had no problem sending in their employees to mine the precious ores from the ground, with little regard to their safety. Ubuntu was one of the few forces in the long history of Earth to even begin to unify the warring nations of Africa, by effectively employing most of their citizens.
In the centuries since the near destruction of Earth, Ubuntu has effectively taken control of Africa, and has begun sending signals out of the atmosphere. Crude but effective space craft have been launched, taking the first settlers off of Earth for the first time in over a thousand years. Ubuntu has found it’s niche in the Megacorporate structure, mining and collecting the meager resources left on Earth, and also trading in pre-exodus artifacts. They have also made a small fortune trading in the new flora and fauna that exists in what was once Africa, and my acting as mercenaries for the more established Corporations.
