Dexcon 9 Results
« on: July 16, 2006, 07:21:15 AM »
6 players... and decidedly alot of Dark Legion this time.  I played one game as filler untill player six arrived- and jumped in for game two.

For those interested, I ran a Cartel Army as a filler- 1 unit Security Cops, 2 units of Peace Keepers, 3 units of Dark Slayers w/flamers, 5 snipers and Nick Michaels.  Interestingly enough, I did damn well facing off againt an army with 7(!) rocket launchers...  SC's rock!!

And here is the results of Dexcon 9's UWZ tourney.

6th place- John Carino @ 30.88: John did very well despite only playing two games (1W/1L).  Using a DL Horde, he gave one of the more experienced players here a fit with his 4 units of Stalkers.  Once he really learns this force, he is going to be a really mean opponent to face.
5th place- Dave McGee (dmcgee1) @ 34.31: Dave also ran DL- this time a Cult army.  Unfortunately for him, his opponents had his number all day.  Ironicly enough, last time he and I played, this force took me apart.  Go figure.
4th place- Steve Garcia (Masherking) @ 35.66:  Steve ran a Demigonis force; and did rather alright- 2 draws and a loss.  Not anything to put down as he did have some very tough opponents.
3rd place- Steve M. (jibbajabbawocky) @ 39.39:  Capitol Dogs, Infantry and Strikers... and alot of crazy results- Draw, pasted and pasting.
2nd place- Phil Sperry (dragon62) @ 49.33:  The aforementioned 7 rocket army of Imperial Flavor.  2 wins and one loss...  About the only thing I would change in this army to make it more effective is another unit for objective taking.
1st Place- Bryan (Philly Sniper) @ 58.63:  Capitol Ground force with Orcas and Strikers... and the Orcas worked overtime in two of his three wins.

I am certain the players will toss in their commentary on the games... and I welcome ideas for improvements.

Sounds like a good time was had by most (minus the occasional pasting).

I have two words for this weekend... Maplewood ROCKS!!!!!!

The guys from Maplewood are not only good guys but they are great gamers as well. It was a pleasure playing them all. In no particular order ... Masher you are da man Mr. M Night Shambleon <I think I see dead people> very interesting force comp. I love seeing what unconventional force you will field no matter what army you use. Jibba Ive heard about your dog army on here. It was nice to get to see it partially in action. You owe me a 1000pt dog Vs Striker battle. Archer I was looking forward to facing you this year, after the waxing you gave me last year. I hope we can get together soon and battle, I learned alot from the whooping you gave me and it helped this year THANKS!
Dragon what can I say to Elton John's warzone brother AKA Rocketman but DAYUM MAN 7 Rockets?!?!?!? and last but not least DMcgee weve battled alot but every game is different and you always present a new challenge. Thanks for the experience.

The games were challenging but fun.. Exactly what Ive come to expect from UWZ. I will definately have to make my way up to Maplewood sometime soon.

In case anyone wanted to know My winning force was:
Capitol Ground

1 6-man squad of Heavy Infantry w/ RL with AP rounds
1 7-man squad of Heavy Infantry
2 6-man Sunset Striker Squads
1 Infantry Colonel -with an effective 18 LD I still lost initiave twice when it counted-dayum you MAsher and your Big Beastie!!!-
1 3 Orca squad 2 Auto Cannons 1 RL with AP Rounds

Dexcon in general was a blast! Im glad I went and was glad to see so many people show up. As far as Im concerned, If theres another army out there for me to battle UWZ will never die.

Phillysniper really showed what a Capitol force is capable of. I REALLY need to get me some Orcas.  Those things are NASTY.  All in all, it was a great tourny.  Lots of fun was had by all, and there were few if any rules arguments. (Mostly I learned just how bad-ass the Sunset Strikers are.)

Nah, even my pasting was fun.  I did manage to worry Phillysniper a bit, and dinged up one of the Orcas.  I was kicking myself for not putting a rocket launcher in one of my HI squads.

Steve- my pleasure to run it.  Next time I am up near Maplewood, I will stop in and we can play then.  You were involved in the Gothic game and was pretty much the only reason I would have stuck around later that night.

I'll look into something come September time frame.

Beleive me, people can make any game... its one of the reasons I still play 40k- the group I play with.  Hopefully I get an equally good bunch to play with where I am moving to.

I meant to post this a long time ago.
 My force composition:
     3-6 man squads of Regulars:
1 Sgt+4 troopers+1 RL specialist (all with Ablative Armor and AP for RL)
     2-6 man squads of Trenchers:
1 Sgt+4 troopers+1 Sniper (only 1 sniper had Datascope and Sgts had Smoke
                   Grenades for UBGL's
1 Imperial Colonel lead the force with Laser optic loadout for his AR
2-2 man squads of Rams Air Cav with AP loadout for support.
   Total points 1000
It was my 1st time with a grunt army no elites and i was very happy with the results all 3 games were great as were my oponents. Look forward to playing against them all again.

Well, if I ever end up in Cleveland, I'll make sure to bring a small Capitol force for you to kick around. :)
