AV weapons in the rear of a vehicle
« on: July 12, 2012, 04:23:47 AM »
The text in the rule book says:

Should an attack be made against a Vehicle from its rear facing and the attacking model has an AV weapon, then the DAM is increased by +3.

Does this include all vehicles or only vehicles with the Impenetrability SA?

All vehicles are included.  The AV bonus is only counted if the target possesses the Impenetrability SA.
If sing, sang, and sung, sink, sank, and sunk, and drink, drank, and drunk, how is it that it isn't bring, brang, and brung, think, thank and thunk, and ding, dang, and dung?

Don't even get me started about bad, badder and baddest.  Run, ran AND run...again?  C'mon!

I presume you mean, Not all vehicles are included? Since all of them do not have Impenetrability. Ex. Pegasus Scoutbike or Necromower. :)

I think Dmcgee wants to tell us:

AV works only against models with Impenetrability but the damage modifier works against all vehicles if you attack them with AV weapons from the rear regardless if they have impenetrability or not. On the other hand there are model with impenetrability but they are no vehicles and in this case it does not matter if you attack the front or in the rear of the model with an AV weapon.

Summary:
The AV modifier against the AR value works against any impenetrability models.
The DAM modifier works in the case you use an AV weapons against the rear of any vehicle regardless of the impenetrability SA.

All vehicles are vulnerable from their rear facing, as it tends to be less armored (just like in real life).  Therefore, AV-rated weapons gain a +4 DM bonus against ALL vehicles when targeting the rear facing of the vehicle.

AV vs. Impenetrability is a completely different process, and would stack when targeting vehicles with the Impenetrability SA.

Does that clear it up?

Certainly, now. Is it really +4 damage? I found only a example of a Free Marine tank hunter vs a 1st edition Imperial Tank in the book and that attack only got +3? (Page 93)

Correct; +3.  Thanks for the correction.  Confusing it with Critical Hit bonus.
