BattleScribe
« on: July 08, 2012, 11:16:44 AM »
So, found this neat site http://www.battlescribe.net/index.html which let you create a digital army record much like Army Builder. Here's the nice part though, they got a phone app.

Currently BattleScribe exists as following:
PC: Windows and Linux
Android Market: Premium and Free version
iPhone: The Premium version of the iPhone app been approved so this is now available for iPhone users as well for a small cost. The guys (and gals?) making it got the Free version rejected but is making some changes and then sending it in again.

So I downloaded the application to my computer (it's free!), and started building on a Warzone game category to test toward my Android smartphone. Sadly no such thing exists yet what I could find so it means I have to start from scratch but for a days work it's going pretty well.

See the below link for the latest version of the files.

http://www.filedropper.com/uwz04

I included in this is both the Game System: Warzone.gst for and the Catalogues for the following Factions.:

Capitol
The Infantry
Capitol Navy Forces
Capitol Ground Forces

Imperial
Imperial Defence Ministry Force (IDMF)
Imperial Clan Bartholomew
Imperial Clan MacGuire
Imperial Clan Murdoch
Imperial Wolfpack

Bauhaus
Homebuilders

Details on where to put them on a computer can be found here: http://www.battlescribe.net/help-overview.html second section below the topic Data Files.

On a Phone it's slightly more difficult, currently I got no good hosting to put these files on. But you can move them to the phones memory by mounting the memory on the computer using a USB cable (Each Catalogue is at most 1.5MB in size) and I would suggest that you put them in a folder named Download or Downloads. If you got two it should be the one where the phone stores your ordinary downloaded files.

Then once in the App you instead of entering a HTTP:// adress simply press Import and it will search the phones memory for the files. (It probably downloads the files from a host to the download folder if I can get a hosting on this.)

In the Warzone Catalogue Ruleset.cat you will a complete Capitol and Imperial catalogue but also all Weapons, Special Abilities and Rules that go with these units. These can easily be copied from this section to new forces such as Bauhaus or Mishima, and just as well it's easy to copy new Special Abilities and Weapons into Warzone Catalogue Ruleset.cat.

If you chose to help create a new force take a moment to expand the various existing forces to see how the Load Outs and Specialists can be sorted and modified within BattleScribe using modifiers to get the correct behaviour of the application. :)

This seems very promising.  Please, let's collaborate.
If sing, sang, and sung, sink, sank, and sunk, and drink, drank, and drunk, how is it that it isn't bring, brang, and brung, think, thank and thunk, and ding, dang, and dung?

Don't even get me started about bad, badder and baddest.  Run, ran AND run...again?  C'mon!

Would be a nice funny feature. Especially as a freeware version  ;D

By the way. Does anybody have experience with the Army Builder?

Does it make sense to use it for Warzone?

I need to find a good way to share these files as I can't do this directly on the board. I will try and get something up today, including what I have done so far which can be used to speed up creating the other factions.

OK, here is a link to the two files required which include my work so far.

http://www.filedropper.com/warzone

I included in this both the Game System for Warzone and the Catalogue for Capitol.

Details on where to put them can be found here: http://www.battlescribe.net/help-overview.html second section below the topic Data Files.

In the Catalogue you will find not only a incomplete Capitol catalogue (Need to add Navy Individuals, Army Squads and Individuals as well as Support Squads) but also all Weapons, Special Abilities and Rules that go with these units as well in it's own tree called Misc. These can easily be copied from this section to new forces. I'm expanding this part as I go through the Capitol Forces so the Misc section should soon include quite a lot. Once I finish the Capitol Catalogue I will start with another force and add every Weapon, Special Ability and Rule of that faction to the Misc section. This should help in quickening the process if anyone want to take another force to build to avoid having too write double.

Also take a moment to expand the various Capitol forces to see how the Load Outs and Specialists can be sorted and modified within BattleScribe. I have added Modifiers in there which for example raise all AR in a squad if you add Extra armor straight into the viewer.  :)

Finished the Navy and Army of Capitol. Just need to add the Support for Capitol and the faction is done.

Uploaded a new version to be found at this link http://www.filedropper.com/warzone02

As before it's a zip file, just extract it following the rules above. I should be finished with Capitol tomorrow. :)

I've used it extensively, and think that it is a good program.

I have a bud that runs a server; let me see what I can do.

I uploaded everything to my phone and tested it, worked really well. I had no issues creating a 1000p Capitol army straight on the phone and the app even come with a Roster Viewer which summarized everything I had selected very nicely. :)

Right, finished the Imperial Catalogue. But I figured out a better way to do the system after that so currently redoing both Capitol and Imperial Catalogue. More flexible to work with should anything need to be changed and should speed up making more factions. :)

Uploaded a new file, here is the address: http://www.filedropper.com/warzone06

It includes a updated (and Complete) Capitol & Imperial Catalogue that can be used either on the BattleScribe application on a computer or on the BattleScribe App.

I have tested the App a bit with these catalogues and it so far works great.

While most rules been included when it comes to buying units I could not get a working system for Support, sadly enough. So for support units you will have to keep track on how many Grunt and Elite squads you bought yourself.

Mote technical note, should someone else wish to try and get that part working.

I tried to enforce through various Modifiers the maximum amount you could pick to increase by 0.5 for each Grunt or Elite Squads you picked. It never increased beyond 1 though so something in that part did not work as I hoped. A risk is that it rounds it down to 0...

Edit: Also updated the first post with the new link, oh and wrote a quick summary on how to import the catalogue to your phone and App without a hosting service. :)

Excited to check it out.

Is there a way to get the file w/out joining that site?
