Doomtroopers
« on: February 10, 2006, 04:02:15 PM »
2 questions referring to Doomtroopers 1) Do Doomtroopers have to stay in command distance or can they act independently of each other and 2) Are Doomtroopers allowed any troop loadouts other than weapons.

1.  they don't have to remain within command distance of each other.
2.  only weapons load outs.  (unless I hear from above that it's different)

Question: if they don't have to keep within command disance of each other, after they have gone out of command distance the next turn when they activate they are not within command distance of each other you declare you are activating the doomtrooper, can you now only activate them one at a time like individuals (ie it takes to goes to activate both of them) or can you still activate them together even through they are not together anymore?

I believe they still conform to act as a squad even though they can act independent of each other.

Dragoon is right.  They still activate as a squad, ie one after the other and they still take Morale and squad based tests together.  Other than that they don't have to really bother with each other much.

where does it say that they don't have to remain within command distance of each other? I thought this only worked for form fireteam.

The Doomtroopers don't seperate from the squad, as in FFT, they just don't have any sort of Command Distance coherancy.  It is spelled out in the "Doomtrooper Pairings" paragraph before the DT troop selections.  Unfortunatly Thom was a bit wordy when he coulda just said, "the Doomtroopers do not have to maintaint Squad Coherency".

Were playing the game without the book and just wanted to see if anyone was online:

Do Doomtroopers make a morale test only after one of them dies?

or

Would they take one earlier if the pair only had 3 wounds left between them?

Were going with the latter cuz it seems more consistent.

Yes. The same goes for other squads of multiwound models.

It's when half the squad has died not when they've lost half their collective wounds.

I think the quite common confusion about this is because individuals roll when they've lost half their wounds.

so multiwound squads take morale tests when they lose at least 50% of their squad?
multiwound individuals take morale tests when they've lost at least 50% wounds?

so multiwound models in a squad don't take morale test when they lose at least 50% wounds and more than half of the squad is still alive?

and if 50% or more of the squad is dead, they do morale check at every new wound, or only at every new death?

multi wound models take their first panic check when they've lost half the squad.  Irregardless of remaining wounds on each model.

They take tests only when they lose members of the squad.

When it gets down to the last guy in the squad he then tests when he's lost half his wounds and for each remaining wound

example:

a squad of seven machinators would take their first test when they've lost four members of the squad.
They would test again when they lose the fifth member.
they would test again when they've lost the sixth.  (all of these assuming that they lose one model per enemy unit activation)
the final guy would only test when he's down to half his wounds.

at the end of the enemy units activation that inflicted the wound/casualty.  (when he gets done shootin you up)  unless some other effect calls for an immediat echeck.
