Average n° of models under a template
« on: February 06, 2006, 11:09:42 AM »
I have not played much yet, so I need some feedback from someone that has a lot of experience:

In average, when shooting with templates, how many enemy models do you get under a template?
-small explosion template (e.g. with mortars)
-small FT/shotgun template
-medium/large FT template
?

My idea was 3, 3, 4, but it'd be great to have some other comments.

Thanks, Chribu

Alot of variation with this... as you almost never get the perfect setup against skilled opponents (when they know those are on the field.
That said, the most I have caught with the GL is five (almost perfect) with the average being 3.  Shotgun is also a placement issue- I rarely get more than four under rich target enviroments (considering the cluster for my shotguns is low, much more is generally usless).

Flamer, on the other hand, is almost always alot- five being average (I've managed nine but that was a perfect setup.  Git saved half of them though...)

It really does depend on a lot of factors.  If your opponent has big squads it is a lot more difficult to spread them out and stay in command distance.  The most I've ever gotten under a small explosion template was .  Shotgun templates are often more limited by cluster effect than by the number of models, and I don't tend to use a lot of shotguns so I couldnt' give you a good estimate.  Flame throwers you can get a lot, but again that depends on spacing, squad size and terrain.

uhm, yes, well i'd just like an average n°, based on all the games you've played with different opponents.
it's for a statistical analysis ::)

I don't keep statistics on my games, so I have no idea what an actual average would be, I would guess 2 or 3 for the small explosion.

at most 2.  The CE of shotguns and the total radius of the small explosion templates being the limiting factor for the total amount of models hit.  On top of that, intelligent manuevering of troops limits total effected models.  "point men" and screening troops are very important for that.

except for with FT's.  Those are entirely based on intelligent manuevering of the attacking troops as well as turn order.  I let the FT hit the squad first, then shoot whatever is left.  Usually.

One question to this.
Do you have to place the center of an explosion template on the first model
or must he just be under the explosion template?

center the ranged explosion template on the first model.

Directly placed templates only have to touch the first model in LOS, they may be moved further to touch as many targets as possible but must touch the first model.
