[1st edition] Wait
« on: May 04, 2011, 04:15:53 AM »
I really need some clarifications considering Waiting Models.

1) Can a waiting member of a warband intercept a model charging an allied individual model?
(example: Dark Tusk Totem is charging Stygian Embalmed - can waiting Stygian Axeman intercept the Totem?)

2) Can an individial model intercept a model charging a member of a warband?

3) Stygian Embalmed countercharged Dark Tusk Totem, they are both alive and the Totem has 2 actions left
a) can waiting axemen use their spare action to charge the Totem (Totem charge was a visible action)?
b) The totem could countercharge 2 axemen if he was not enagged in CC. what can it do with its spare actions in this situation?

4) the Totem is performing a visible Move action near a Stygian Axemen warband
a) can ie. 4 of the axemen charge the Totem at the same time?

Talking to myself does not prove my mental stability...
I can see that the topic was read over 100 times and still there is no reply, so I am putting my opinion. Maybe it will help a bit.

Situations mentioned above are not included in the rulebook so I think that a very useful rule can be added:

1) and 2) "Individual models may be declared a part of any warband in their command disctance for target and morale purposes."
This solves problems with: charging, countercharging and spells affecting whole units. It also covers existing morale and fire restriction issues.

3)
a) Yes they can. The charge was a visible action, and they can react to it, but only after resolving the countercharge.
b) There are two sides:
- Totem spends an action (1 per charging model) and countercharges - (but cannot do it because is already in CC)
- Totem cannot do anything beacuse of being in close combat - Axemen attack it as if it was activated with no waiting markers.
Solution: Totem can speand an action to countercharge but remains in CC (They roll for LD to see who strikes first, but Totem has no modifiers for charging and Stygian Axeman gets bonus for charging and the Embalmed)

4) Yes they can. Solution in point 3 can be used.

What do you think?

Sorry to leave you hanging for so long.  I've only played second edition, but I own the first edition rulebook.   In first edition, there are no wait tests for a model to intercept an attacker charging at his buddy in his unit.  In second edition, you need to make a test to do that.  It is better odds to save your wait marker for when you need it yourself and can use it freely, for the most part, but there are times where you want to press ahead and go for it.

I'll re-read your posts and see if I can answer more of your questions, as I have time.

I like your solutions.

I had to read 3b twice though before I agreed with it.
