1st edition Martian Banshee
« on: September 08, 2010, 05:56:23 AM »
What does "is considered helicopter" for Martian Banshee mean?

Is it only ability to move 10 inches (on the amplitude of 10 inches) per action and staying in the air or landing?

What about:
- attacking from above is considered engage action (-4 to MW)?
- can it engage as vehicle (attack while moving)?
- can it move on the ground 3 inches per action?
- can it hide and infiltrate 1,5 inch per action?

What really does being helicopter but not (or maybe they are) vehicle stand for?

It's an excellent set of questions, i wondered about the helicopter things as well.

I sadly/fortunately didn't get to fight them so we didn't have to brainstorm on this.

Oakwolf:
Hmm, I thought I could get some help from you. I'd like to know what you think.

Even light vehicle are considered large models and Banshees are normal so, for now I use my Banshees like:

on ground:
- can behave (hide infiltrate etc.) as normal special forces trooper (3 inches per action)

In the air:
- can move at maximum 10 inches per action
- at the end of each action it can land or hover
- has LOS to every unit on table and every unit has LOS to it
- can be rallied only on the ground
- can attack without penalty (I assume engage only affects vehicles)
- is not limited by amount of turns per action
- can aim (but I do not do that - it is better to jump, attack, land)
- area effect weapons do not hit them, if deviated

Sounds good to me.

Suggestion: If a squad leader ends its activation airborne, the whole squad should go airborne to maintain coherency.

The precisions you posted would be much better than having them behave like "helicopters"  ;).

However, i remember you had access to polish and other language versions; perhaps take a look there in case the helicopter word is more like hovercraft or even something else entirely.

Of course you are right. I forgot to mention coherency

There is some more I also forgot:
- Banshee cannot engage (it is restricted for vehicles only)
- Banshee cannot make drive-by attacks, but can charge using jetpacks (10 inches)
