WHFB Beast Clans
« on: April 15, 2010, 12:38:27 PM »
As promised here are some pics of my alternate WHFB Dwarfs using the Chronopia Beast Clans.

I am using GF9 magnetic bases along with the GW movement tray. here is a unit of Vulture swordsmen, the first 2 ranks aren't cleaned up or glued to the bases and I still need to work on a command group. The bases and movement tray will be textured before painting, when ever that is..

Can't wait to see them painted up.  Are some of those the ones I mailed you??  I'd like to make sure they got to their new home.

No I haven't received them yet, should be sometime this week.

My immediate goal is to have a 1000pt list consisting of a mix of clans.

Thane - Vulture Talon Lord

20 Warriors - Vulture Swordsmen
20 Warriors - Darktusk Swordsmen? or Bloodbone Gauntlets

10 Quarrelers - Vulture Marksmen

10 Thunderers - converted Bloodbone Axemen? holding rifles.

2 Bolt Throwers or a Cannon
1 Organ Gun or possibly a Gyrocopter

I would use Vulture crew for the Bolt Throwers while possibly using Bloodbones for gun-powder wielding dwarfs and crew.

Let me know when they arrive.  I want to keep my good trader status and see your results.  This looks like it's gonna be big!

I have been trying to find a suitable Bolt Thrower to use with the Dwarfs. I am not a hug fan of the GW one, its okay I guess but It's made out of metal/stone? and I'm not really a fan of the new dwarf fluff/attitude that views wood is an inferior building material.

After a little searching on the web and I found some roman war machines that could fit the bill although they do look slightly 'primitive' compared to many fantasy counterparts. Any thoughts or pointers to other Bolt Throwers/Ballista miniatures would be appreciated.

I would mount both the smaller Scorpio's on a single base to count as a larger bolt thrower comparable to WHFB.

Miniatures are from Warlord Games.

I think those would work just fine.

Here are a few Blood Bone Axemen I have cleaned up and mounted on bases/tray. I had rounded the pointy toed boots on the first few and felt compelled to trim them all down.

While I think a full unit of 20 with command would look impressive they are some of the few sculpts that I could easily add rifles to. It all depends on the rifle size but I envision them holding the barrel with the stock resting on the ground. I may have to reposition some arms.

Part of me wants to stay 'true' to the Chronopia fluff and not use any black powder weapons, thoughts?

Well, it's Warhammer done with Chronopia, so I say go with your gut.  You can always convert one just to see how it looks first before committing.

Have you thought about using Bayonets with the Blood Bone rifles? Maybe using their Ake heads for this purpose?
People willing to trade their freedom for security deserve neither and will lose both.

My gut says that if I ever plan on playing or even assembling an army larger then 1k, I should have some variety in missile weapons and war machines.  So black powder is in, not to mention I have had a hard time finding enough vulture marksmen.

The bayonet idea is a good one. I am still looking for some rifles/muskets to use but I will give them a try.

I received the postal slip for my Prince August order so I should be able to show some more progress soon.

In the mean time I bought the roman war machines set and they are a pretty good fit. However I do not think they will match up to anything more technical such as the planned organ gun.

Now I am eyeing up the following from Black Tree Design. I like that they are not as elaborate as the GW war machines.
Finances permitting I will pick up a pair of bolt throwers and an organ gun. But first I will have everything else cleaned, based and ready for weapon swaps if need be.

Kroot rifles ??

I managed to find a couple but they are far to big/long.  I have not been able to find any musket or old-style rifles so far, although there are plenty of WWII and Sci-fi weapons out there. Unless anyone knows of a source I will be looking into using the GW thunderers rifles. I am hoping there are some rifles on the sprue with out arms and hands cast to it.

Now Mantic hasn't released it yet, but this would make an excellent Organ Gun for your forces, once they release it.
