Von Koss's various Non-Excelsior projects
« on: March 11, 2010, 12:34:46 PM »
Just to kick things off...here are some 1/72 Imex Union and Confederate troops of the American Civil War.  I plan on painting quite a few of these guys and scaling down down some of the War of the Ring rules for some quick gaming action for my friends and I.  I have always been interested in history and it's many battles so I am going to test the waters in some historical wargaming and see what is out there.

I plan on putting eight minis to a stand (made out of plastic card For Sale signs) and having six stands to a unit/regiment.  Here is just such a stand of Union infantry that has been prepped for gray-scaling.

I had to place the minis on popsicle sticks because it slows me down having to "duck" around other minis when I'm painting.  Here are some Union troops.

Here are some Confederates.

I find the popsicle sticks really allow you to motor through the minis when painting and it has allowed me to paint six sticks of four each in about an hour and a half from start to finish.   Yeah I know, I couldn't believe it either.  The minis are not going to impress many people with their sculpts, but I plan on going for a massed effect to create that "Wow" factor.  I may or may not achieve it...we'll see.

@ Joshua There are some but I am working on that  ;D.

The old Atlantic Greeks and Egyptians are nice figures too.I also have some sets of Gladiators which are nice models. The 1'72nd scale leaves loads of scope for large battles cheaply.

Just a few things done here and there...

I painted this last year for a friend and could not remember if I had posted it yet.  Armorcast Titan.

The front rank of 5 Skaven clanrats completed yesterday.

Chaos Trolls were started yesterday and with some heavy overbrushing...completed today.

My Terran Alliance Fleet...I had completed the frigates, carrier, and cruisers awhile ago, but finished the Battleship last night.

I like the ships...well, I like all of it, but I really like Firestorm Armada's look.  I like the Dindrenzi.

Some photos for your enjoyment...
I have been working on some Uncharted Seas ships- not that they will help as my buddy has been handing me my hat on every game we have played, though the last one was extremely close.  Here are the hulls of a Heavy Cruiser and some Martyr class Frigates from the Imperial line.

The set up of a Warhammer 8th ed battle- Empire troops set to defend a settlement from a horde of Vampire Counts.

A Black Coach thunders down the road flanked by a unit of 20 dire wolves who are in search of a few tasty souls.

A zombie parade because everyone loves zombies...as they make great targets.

I won't say your human ships inspired me to actually paint, but I do have Iron Dwarves and Dragonlords to finish.  I'll put them in my queue.  A zombie congo line is something to both fear and fascinate.  When the legs are kicked out, you never can tell if they'll stay attached!

Had my very first game of Battletech...it was a challenge to take it all in, but I had a great time throwing a few dice around with my friends.

Ever had one of those days in life...

My side ended up losing the game and I think I was a big part of the reason why as I pulled a "Leroy Jenkins!!!!!"  and charged in close but I could not help it...you don't give VK a big gun and expect me to sit back and shoot at long range!  I've gotta run up to ya so you can see it before I pull the trigger.

Here is another photo shot of the other side of the table...some of my mechs taking on the enemy as they stepped out of the forest...yeah...he broke it off in me.  :'(

(Truth be known is that I hate playing against people who sit back and won't "mix it up" a little.  It's game...let's have fun I say.   AND yeah...I'm a blast to engage in a snowball fight.  You may pound me into the ground with snowballs but your gonna do it up close.)
