Campaign Background and Batreps
« on: February 02, 2010, 09:30:18 PM »
After the death of Lord Nagoya, Supreme Dragon and Lord of Mishima, the corporate wars change course.
The Lord Heirs Moya, Maru, and Mariko have begun a struggle for succession after the death of their father.
Lord Moya, in hiding in his Celestial Palace since the death of his 3 eldest sons, has come forward to claim his inheritance as firstborn, but Lord Maru has prepared his armies for war claiming that Nagoya’s death was engineered by Moya.
Mishiman diplomats have established alliances with the other Corporations: Capitol backs Lord Moya on all planets where it has troops in exchange for permission to attack the leased city of Fukido. Bauhaus takes advantage of the siblings’ war to attempt to rid itself of the bothersome presence of Mishima and Imperial on Venus. Cybertronic takes advantage of the situation to attack Imperial while its allies fight one another, and the Brotherhood, under the lead of Cardinal Dominic, Cardinal since the mysterious disappearance of Cardinal Durand XVII in 1270, begins a purging that includes attacks on the Megacorporations.
The Solar System is in a period of intrigue, avarice, violence and blood, where no planet is free of the madness. In the shadows, the Dark Soul smiles, waiting for the moment to give humanity a lethal blow...

THE START OF THE WAR

The death of Lord Nagoya was mysterious. Even though the Supreme Lord was over 100, he enjoyed excellent health, and nobody suspected that his death would come at the moment it did. It is rumored that his personal guard found his room at the time of his death in disorder, as if somebody had been searching for something there. Others whisper that his death was unnatural, as if caused by a poison, or even as if by the dark arts.

After the Death of Lord Nagoya it should have been Moya, as firstborn, to succeed him. However, Lord Nagoya’s last will, as well as the counselor given the duty of keeping it, disappeared, leaving the Lord’s intentions unknown. After learning of this situation, the numerous children of Moya gathered in the Supreme Palace on Luna to decide who would inherit the throne. Each lord heir sought the support of his minor siblings and other family members to gain this. After weeks of negotiations, the parties were in gridlock. It was then that Lord Heir Maru accused Lord Heir Moya of assassinating their father, claiming to have proof of this. The accusation unleashed chaos, and some unleashed their swords. Lord Moya escaped from the palace thanks to his personal guard.
Now Maru and Mariko have allied their forces to defeat Moya.
In the meantime, the other children of Lord Nagoya and his personal guard of 10,000 Hatamoto, with Cartel approval, have sealed the throne from everyone until the situation is resolved, enfuriating Lord Moya, who demands the recognition of his primogeniture.

A SUMMARY OF THE WAR (up until the start of this campaign):

November 1285: The servants of Maru and Mariko on Mercury have been ordered to withdraw into their safer fortresses and bases to await reinforcements or new orders, leaving vast areas of the Mercurian underworld without protection from the forces of Moya or the Dark Legion.

December 1285: To take the initiative in the war, Moya should have taken his forces to venus to war on Maru. Bauhaus has been absolutely inflexible on this point, refusing the new transport of major forces to “their” planet. Lord Moya then found an ally in Capitol. Capitol has a large presence on venus with which to attack Maru, and has also always sought entrance into the lucrative markets on Mercury, held in tight grip up until now by Imperial. This way capitol would have a chance to seize some or all of Fukido, and prevent Moya from having to eventually pay Imperial a major indemnity for breaking Mishima’s contract with Imperial on Fukido.

January 1286: capitol on Venus negotiates an alliance with bauhaus on the Graveton Archipelago. In exchange fior bauhauser help against Maru on venus, Capitol will help Bauhaus against imperial on the same planet. Capitol’s strategy is to isolate Imperial on Fukido.

January 1286: Maru and Mariko, ignoring Capitol’s alliance with Moya, launch an invasion fleet against Mercury. The invasion proves a disaster in space, with Moya’s fleet and capitol’s destroyers forcing the invasion fleet to retreat, with 1/5 of their ships lost.

January 1286: Cardinal Dominic gives a moving televised sermon about the necessity of wiping out paganism (that is, the teachings of the Seven Enlightened Sages of Mishima) as well as against heresy. Small skirmishes between Brotherhood forces against Mishima and Cybertronic become known around the system.

February 1286: Maru and Mariko’s strategy now concentrates on Mars and Venus. The invasion fleet awaits on Luna. Their forces concentrate against Capitol on Mars, Venus and the asteroid belt, seeking to force Capitol to redeploy its fleet, leaving Mercury more vulnerable to a second invasion.

March 1286: dark Legion activity increases on Venus. The Brotherhood sends forces there to counter the Darkness.

April 1286: Maru and Mariko make an alliance with Imperial. In exchange for Imperial’s help against capitol on Mars and Venus, the lease on Fukido will be renegotiated amicably for Imperial once Mercury is in Maru and Mariko’s hands.

May 1286: In the asteroid belt, Cybertronic has taken advantage of the scarcity of Imperial forces previously stationed there to launch a blitzkrieg against Imperial colonies. Imperial begs Maru and Mariko for relief there, but they refuse, which leaves Imperial displeased.

June 1286... the campaign today.

CAMPAIGN UPDATE FROM JANUARY 27/2010

Most action on Venus, where Bauhaus has found its lines stretched too thin, allowing Mishima and Imperial especially to expand their positions.
On Mercury, Mishima has thus far contained the attempts of the Dark Legion to emerge from the subworlds, maintaining its iron grip on the planet.
In the rest of the system the situation is more stable, with no side gaining  strong advantage over the others... yet.

CAMPAIGN UPDATE FROM FEBRUARY 2, 2010

On Venus, the war has intensified. In the Peninsula of the Cardinal, the Brotherhood and Bauhaus are faring poorly against the Dark Legion, which has mobilized strongly. Imperial secures its positions on Juno River, after a quick succession of victories. In the Graveton Archipelago a complicated series of guerrilla skirmishes stymie any progress.

On Mercury, the Dark Legion has begun to penetrate the first lines of defense of Mishima, though the corporation is still ready to counter the Darkness.

In the asteroid belt, the violence escalates between Imperial and Cybertronic, though neither side has been able to definitively seize terrain from the other.

On Mars, the fronts stagnate. Long debates in the halls of Capitol have retarded the mobilization of forces, and the opposition has seized the opportunity to accuse the Capitolian leadership of indecisiveness.
