World Campaign Rules and Open Invitation
« on: February 01, 2010, 03:39:44 PM »
INTRODUCTION
http://mutantchronicles.mforos.com/1821034-campana-warzone-doomtrooper/
ahoy, gents. the fellows over at the Spanish forum have set up a massive 2 month WZ campaign in which anyone can participate, have extended the invite to anyone from this forum who would like to contribute (as well as to an italian warzone forum they have connections to), and I will translate the rules here for anyone who would like to join in the fun. atm most of the players are in Spain, with the only American representative being yours truly. For the background fluff related to the campaign and ongoing campaign updates see my other post "Campaign Background and Batreps."  Any edition of warzone can be used (in the spanish forum doomtrooper ccg players are also contributing through that game, though most players are 2nd ed, some 1st ed, some dabbling in uwz) and feel free to come up with your own subset of rules for your individual games, so long as the basic minimums are contributed per the basic rules below. The point is to have fun! Also, feel free to reply on this thread. This post will be divided as follows:
BASIC RULES
WARZONES
OPTIONAL RULES
WEEKLY RULE CHANGES/UPDATES (ongoing)

BASIC RULES
The campaign is divided into four two-week periods. We are currently at the start of the second period (sorry, it didn't occur to me to translate all this stuff until recently.), which ends on February 14. The basic rules are:
1. Pick a specific Warzone from the list below in which your battle will take place. At least one of the factions should be present in the specific warzone, though ideally the battle will involve both parties in that warzone.
2. Determine game result from options immediately below. Keep in mind that game can be objective based, IN WHICH CASE DETERMINE WHETHER GAME WAS A WIN OR TIE GAME BY YOUR OWN PREDETERMINED RULES (CORRECTION 2/2/10):
TIE GAME: When one side beats the other with less than a 10% difference left in original army points/point cost at the end of the game.
VICTORY: When one side beats the other with more than 10% point cost difference at the end of the game.
MASSACRE: When one side beats the other with over 60% point difference by the end of the game.
3. Send result of that particular battle to the following email: resultadoscampanawarzone1@hotmail.com
Results should include the two sides involved, the size of the battle in points, the result, and in what specific warzone the battle took place. If no specific warzone was chosen, admins will assign the battle to a warzone in which at least one of the armies was present, with the priority going to least active warzones. Also keep in mind that you are not REQUIRED to give a battle result every 2 weeks. If you wish, you may only contribute one game to the entire campaign.

OPTIONAL RULES

STRATEGIC PLACEMENTS
Any party of at least two players can request to be placed in one particular warzone for the campaign. (Send me an email and I will forward to Boreno from the Spanish forum.) The same strategic placement can be played by different groups, so other parties from around the world may also affect your strategic placement as weekly results update and rules change. The requirement is that you send an update of the campaign in your specific warzone at least every 2 weeks with the battles that have occurred and the changes that have thus occurred in your warzone. The strategic placement campaign rules below are ONLY SUGGESTED (and highly abbreviated from the Spanish originals, so forgive me for any inconsistencies or errors. I will forward any questions you may have if confused), and may be modified as you please per your strategic placement subcampaign.

1. Use a large map with hexes of different worth to be fought over. What side is winning or losing will be determined by who controls most of the map and the most valuable points.
2. Each player begins with a master list for his army worth 2000 points. Upgrades and magic powers should not be included in this list, and can be bought for each battle and apply only to that battle. Units can be repeated in the master list but cannot be used in the same battle.
3. Since the campaign is divided into 4 two-week periods, the first week’s battles will be at 500 points, the next at 750, then 1000, then 1250.
4. Units that lose 50% or less of their members or wounds (in the case of vehicles or individuals) can be redeployed in the next battle at full health. Those that lose over 50% of members or wounds cannot be deployed in the next battle as they are recuperating, but can return in the battle after that. Units destroyed are LOST for the campaign IF they roll a 7 or more in a 1d20 after the battle. If they roll a 6 or less, they may not rejoin in the next battle but must wait until the one after that. On top of that, when they rejoin they may only do so at squad size minimum, with only half the specialists allowed (rounded down).  Broken units that flee the battle must roll a leadership test (no penalties) to determine whether they stay or are eliminated from the master list, after which wound/member number rules apply.
5. Since battles change things rapidly, unit that should be resting the next battle may immediately rejoin instead of resting but with the following caveats. If the rejoining unit is a squad, it will rejoin as if it had been destroyed previously (see 4 above). Individuals and vehicles will join with only half their wounds (rounded up). If they survive that battle they cannot participate in the next battle but must wait until the one after that.
6. Reinforcements. After 2 weeks playing, sides receive 600 points to replenish their forces, 900 after 4 weeks, and 1100 after 6 weeks.
7. If players are using victory points in their battles, they may trade in a vitory point for 150 points of units.
8. If playing using a hex map, battles are determined by players’ positions on the map and who their territory is in contact with. Initiative is rolled to see who moves first against who to determine battles that will be played and hexes to be fought over. Highest Init roll may choose who moves first instead.
Cities and industrial complexes: 2 VP per occupier. 3 if a particularly important locale.
Foritified base (FORT): Occupying an enemy base awards 3 VP per turn. Losing a base means it costs 2vp to obtain 150 points of reinforcements.
Comm station (FORT): Occupying one awards plus 3 to initiative roll when looking over the hex map (i.e. not plus 3 to individual battles).
9. Hexes should have environment marked. In mountain3 and swamp 3 wheeled vehicles and tanks can not be used. In swamp 1, at least 25% of battlefield must be water, in swamp 2, 50%, in swamp 3, 75%.  There’s also Jungle and Desert rules, but these follow the 2nd ed. Supplement rules. Since you all use UWZ mostly, adjust accordingly.
10. FORT: If occupier is attacked in one of these hexes, occupier may use 5% worth of points to buy defenses and may readjust any scenery that is not hills, forests or large rocks from his deployment zone right before game starts. The mission must always be “annihilate”

***THE HEX MAP RULES ARE WAY LONGER IN THE SPANISH FORUM AND I BARELY UNDERSTAND THEM SINCE I HAVE NEVER PLAYED USING CAMPAIGN MAPS LIKE THAT. I HAVE ONLY TRANSLATED PARTIALLY AND HAVE PROBABLY MADE ERRORS. KEEP IN MIND THESE ARE OPTIONAL AND MAY BE CHANGED AS YOU PLEASE. IF YOU WANT SPECIFIC QUESTIONS ANSWERED, EMAIL ME AND I WILL TRANSLATE THE QUESTION AND FORWARD IT.

MORE OPTIONAL RULES

Mission types:
SEARCH AND DESTROY
Deployment zone is halfway up the middle of the map. Only2 squads and one individual may be deployed at the start of the game. In turn 2 half of the hidden squads may be deployed near end of map, in turn 3 the other half. Game lasts only 6 turns.
BREAK THE LINES
Game lasts 7 turns. Objectives seized are worth more the closer they are to the enemy’s deployment zone.
ANNIHILATE
5 turns. Nuff said.

THE RULES WERE A BIT DEEPER, KINDA CONFUSING, AND THERE WERE MORE SCENARIO TYPES. KEEP IN MIND THESE ARE ONLY OPTIONAL... USE RULES THAT MAKE MORE SENSE TO YOU. MY APOLOGIES FOR LAZINESS IN TRANSLATION.

ahoy. updated basic rules regarding objective based games. (i.e. results may be determined without consideration of army points left by end of game.)

am also wondering if anyone here is interested in participating in the campaign??  its ok if not, but wouldnt mind knowing whether anyone actually will participate.

We may have to get together prior to Talamania to participate. Looks like March / April gaming weekends unless the Philly crew can swing a couple of games before then.

Always look out for number one, but don't step in number two.
What do you mean Flash Gordon approaching? OPEN FIRE!
The entire Capitol Army.
Don't ever say anything but a 20 before rolling the dice.
