Grey Ghost and officers in general
« on: May 05, 2011, 06:09:04 AM »
Is a Grey Ghost an officer?

Or to ask it different and more general:
To be an officer is it necessary to be a commander?

Or one more version of the same question:
Is every individual an officer?

Only thing in the FAQ is:

Page 253: Gray Ghost
Q: Is the Gray Ghost really support?
A: No. She should be listed as “Individual trooper, limit 1 per army, mortal.”

Since he is not listed as an officer I would say he could not fall under the unit commander rules/abilities

Every individual is not an officer ex. - Sgt Carter

hope this helps

Always look out for number one, but don't step in number two.

Sorry, but not at all. I think you misunderstood my question.

The force commander rule says you must have at least three other officers.

That means for sure all commanders (unit, force, dev.) and the rules before says:

"Officers & Personalifies
Officers (also referred to as Individuals)" Page 36

Does that include the Grey Ghost? He is an individual. So he should be one but I am not sure.

Had the same thinking around the Capitol Model Nathan R Parrish. What was said is that the individual is not a officer if not specifically written. Otherwise it's just a named "grunt" or similar. :)

So we have:
"Force Commanders",
"Force Commanders" who are played as "Officers" as long the requirements are not fullfilled to be a force commander (written in the FAQ/Forum), and
"Officers"

and on the other hand we have "Individual Troopers". They are no officers. So far I think I am correct.

The skills mentioned on page 36 are only for officers or for individual troopers, too?

Every individual is an officer

Page 36:

Officers & Personalities
Officers (also referred to as Individuals) are models that
can act independently upon the battlefield.

So every Individual counts towards the number of officers for a real Force Commander.
But not every officer has the Commander Ability.
That must be listed under the special abillities of the model.

Officers (also referred to as Individuals)

I think it is a typo. Some Individuals are classified as Officers in their description, some other not. The description of a model tells who is Officer and who is not.
Commanders are considered ranked Officers.

So a Grey Ghost or a Sergant Carter would give the benefits of Page 36
  • Moral LD benefit
  • 8" Command Distance

But they may not
  • Give Orders
  • Assume Command
  • Rally others
because they have not the Commander SA

If this is a typo someone of the FAQ Team should clearify this.
If Deathbringers and Demonhunters are not counting towards the number for a real Force Commander
someone I know would maybe get problems to field a real FC.

I do not have my book so I cannot find chapter and section for you but the following what I recall to be correct.

Officers are listed in their type description.  They DO NOT need to have a Commander SA to count towards Off Board.  Ge3nerally, Individuals have been accepted to fill the role requirements for Off Board.  Given the rule-mongers around here, if this was wrong, it would have been found. ;D

HOWEVER, to gain the benefits of Giving Orders, Assume Command, Rally others... they must have one of the following SA's

Unit Commander (ex: Light Infantry Captain)
Divisional Commander (Capitol Major)
Force Commander (Colonel)
John "Archer" Tinney

"Ready?"
"Why do your people always ask if someone is ready, just before you do something massively unwise?"
"Tradition."
