Chariot Building Contest
« on: May 12, 2009, 04:01:55 PM »
Whether you were at Talamania III or not, I doubt there was anyone who wasn’t in some way tantalized by the chariot races we ran. William’s superb chariots (all custom builds) were both a thrill to look at and fun to play with. Based on the responses to those pictures, you agreed. Those models were nothing less than inspiring and it is in that spirit that we have decided to hold our first Talaminiatures Chariot Building Contest.

This is a fun contest, meant to inspire each other. Keep that in mind as you proceed. A secret panel of Judges (names withheld to protect from graft) will score the entries and determine the top three winners in each category. There are two categories for this contest, an Ultimate Warzone Competition and a Chronopia: War in the Eternal Realm Competition. Talaminiatures and Veezcon Industries, and some other friends will provide prizes as we proceed. A special section will be added for this in the painting area. This contest is open to all forum members and the following rules apply.

RULES

   1.     Entries must be submitted in final form by photos by midnight on 08/15/09, or else be disqualified.
   2.     Final entry photos must include a left, right, center, rear and overhead shot of the model(s).
   3.     Only one (1) entry per category per person.
   4.     All entry designs must be chariot styled (i.e.- a conveyance pulled by something).
   5.     All entries must be based so they could be used in game play.
   6.     All entries must use models designed for the two games. Alterations to the posing, etc…are allowed.
   7.     Conversions are welcomed so long as the basic figures and such remain identifiable.
   8.     If a model has not been released for the games and you have made a proxy for it yourself, that is allowed. Substitution of another company’s models is not encouraged. Scratch
            built vehicles are welcomed.
   9.     Creativity is the name of this game, though it is set within the framework of the two settings. Make sure your entries adhere to the designs and motifs established therein.

JUDGING

Judges will rank entries based on the following five criteria:

  1.     Overall Design. How well the model is crafted and assembled, how well it conveys movement and action.
  2.     Creativity. How well the model captures the flavor of the game/race/rules.
  3.     Basing. How well the base completes and compliments the model you created.
  4.     Quality of Conversions. Pretty self evident.
  5.     Painting. Including technique, neatness, skill in execution, coherent color scheme, and overall appearance.

Dang!!  Mine's already ineligible.

Thought should be given to the fact that these ranges aren't in production, and some may be loathe to use their last Ripper Beasts to convert to a racechariot.

No. They can do it, there are creative alternatives.  Ripper Beasts don't have to be hard mounted.  Think of the dioramas presented in WD where the models are part of a scenic display but removable for play. :D

There are an awful lot of things you could do without ruining the integrity of your models.

Well, I'm probably going off reservation a bit, even if it disqualifies me!!  It's the only time I can do it.  Sigh.

Is the point of the contest to convert up a model or just build a chariot of some sort?  In other words, would an entry lose creativity points if it was a released model (i.e. the Firstborn chariot)?

You can use a firstborn chariot without penalty if you are doing a firstborn chariot.  Your creativity isn't hurt by this.  The point is to build a chariot and have fun.  If you enter the FBC as sold, that's great.  If you add to it, just as good.

I'll have to build two!!  I'll enter the legal one in the contest.  I think I will call it: "Coil's Bane."   ;D

Hmmm... I'll have to enter something for Chronopia.

Off the top of my head, though, there aren't any Chariot-type conveyances for the Devout.

Am I out of bounds if I come up with something new, a new chariot type?  Something that just looks cool, and is based appropriately, but maybe doesn't have rules in the game?

Near as I can tell, the intent of the contest is for the chariot game at the end of Talamania rather than any in cannon pieces (I don't recall any chariots in UWZ).

Be inspired and produce your own!
VeezCon products:  Not as good as if they had been actually produced by a real figure company, but better than using your shoe to proxy with...sort of!
