Anyone have a cheap idea for water effects? I would like to pour out onto a 4x6 table after I have attached the indestructable foam on it. The bottom would be painted and have swamp effects (flock, static grass, skeletons, bits etc). The stuff would be tinted slightly green for swamp effect. The sides would be built up and sealed to prevent leakage and can be kept/removed later. Most likely kept for support. If you do the math 4x6 is 24 square feet. Subtract at least half for foam board = 12 square feet. Depth would be approx 1/2 inch so I need enough stuff to cover. Does laquer sp? work or is it too smelly. I was thinking about a slow cure 2 step epoxy. 30-60 minute. I would need about 2 gallons I think.  Anyone have any suggestions.

I am trying to keep $ down and not have to heat the mixture to use.

Does glue work? Not sure.

An idea was brought up recently at Dave's

Anyone interested in a factory board?

It would be ruined/bombed out factory/industrial complex. Lots of terrain on the board of course. Neat to focus on hand to hand and close quarters combat type of board.

I think it would be a welcome addition to a tourney type board for Talamania. Alot of rethinking of army comp could happen. Hard for vehicles to be effective type board. Any ideas/comments welcome.

One of my near future boards is a factory board of some kind, or rather an industrial site that can be place on the same 4x4 sheet that I use for urban.  I'll be using Necromunda and Platformer/Hexagon sets as a starting point but not the be-all end-all for the project.  The idea is that it is modular, made of constructs rather than set peices, has some color rather than being just drab grey, and could be just about any industrial site from a chemical plant to a steel refinery.  Sean Patten's Necromundicon website is just one inspiration I'll be using to develop stuff from.

Awesome. One less board to worry about. Great idea to use the platforms etc. Chemical stuff will work also. Necro was a great game until corrupted beyond repair. 4x4 much better than a rigid board IMHO. Also may want to add "removable" pieces to add in later on bases for aditional terrain some players prefer. I would keep it simple but have pieces to add per players preference. Great idea!

I've always used hobby resin for water.  It's relatively inexpensive - less than 20 ducats.

Ideally the pieces will be free-standing on their own bases (around 1x1 or 1.5 x1) so that they can be moved, combined with other pieces or placed on different boards (like grass boards or desert boards).  In fact, once I get caught up on T-3 projects and VeezCon customers (it will all be in the mail or on its way to T-3 shortly gents), I need to pick up on some industrial projects (and my status and projections for this year) for an upcoming project centering on an industrial area.

Remember, cement block buildings are very easily made with ceiling tiles.  The blocks are scored into the tiles with a nail and a straight edge.  It looks awesome and it's cheap and easy!

Hobby resin. Is that the stuff at train/hobby shopy you need to heat up and pour?

I was trying to move away frm that because it hurt my little hands when I attempted to try it last. Still have the scars from the blisters/burns on that one.

No it's a two part resin you mix - no heating.  A little stinky smelling but not a prob after it hardens.

Here is a board that I'll be making available to Talamania if you guys are interested; it needs a base underneath it (green felt or something) but I think it provides a  unique environment for scenarios or open warfare:

Hmm, those planes look familiar...

I'm very glad to see them being put to good use!  Could we have a pic with a fig near them?
