Datafeed 22:56:08 - A Mad Attempt To Kill Doctor Dianna
« on: February 15, 2009, 11:47:36 PM »
Alert: Dark Legion agents somehow learned of Dr. Dianna's secret meeting with Brotherhood representatives on Luna at the Hotel Astares.  Before Brotherhood forces could respond, a massive suicide force of assassins invaded the hotel, trying to punch its way to the suite where the meeting was taking place to murder her.

Though her cybertronic guard was standing by to repel the invaders, it came down to the wire, with her fate in the hands of a squad of unshakeable Arch Primates...

Let's see what happened!

We sort of just grabbed stuff we wanted both sides to play and didn't count points.  The idea was to do what you can with whatcha got.  We flipped a coin to choose sides. Tom won and chose to play the Dark Legion.

The Psycho-Killers - Tom's Muawjihe Attackers
1) 3 Units of 7 Karnos (21 total) led by a Doomsday Proclaimer
2) 1 Zen Soulslayer
3) 1 Unit of 10 Acolytes (ldr and HMG) led by an Angel of Mercy
4) 3 Immaculate Furies led by and Immaculate Imperceptor
5) Bahlaeron
6) Nepharite of Muawjihe

The Doctor's Escort - My Cybertronic Defenders--
1) 4 PV's & 1 PV Captian
2) 2 Units of 4 MK I's, each with an LMG Spec
3) 1 Surveiller

Upstairs Guard
1) Operations Overseer
2) Chemiman
3) 3 Mirror Men
4) 3 Arch Primates & 1 Decurion
5) 1 Assassin
6) Ze Doctor!

SCENARIO RULES--
All Defenders (Me) were considered warned of the attack and so were automatically on Wait.

On This Level - We decided I would draw a map and hide where my defenders were.

Voila, The Hotel Astares - I made this as part of my cyberpunk city (a long unfinished project...someday)

Outside The Hotel - After the attack had begun

Lined up outside and ready to rumble

Acolytes disguised as the room service guys sneak in the side door

Waiting Inside The Hotel

Upstairs - Tom wasn't privy to seeing where I had placed these figs.

In the left Ste..

In the Right Ste.

Guarding the Doc

Let the battle begin--

Turn 1 & 2
Tom rushed the stairs with the Karnos hoping he could use their speed to get past my fire.  Even though most of my guys were on WAIT, all I had for ranged weapons were the PV squad (5 guys), the 2 LMGs and the Surveiller. It proved to be nearly enough at first. (The light during the afternoon was cool...I like the way it spills through the side door).

Tom also brought his Acolytes inthe side door - taking shots at my MKI's over the rail.  He did minimal damage and I held my fire for the karnos.

The first turn was brutal for Tom - My MKI LMG took out 4 Karnos and Tom's attempts to use his Nepharite of Muawjihe to Mad Marionette my troops failed.

I moved my MK I's into position to block the stairs and hopefully clog his force there - Some light HTH occurred and they held the line.

But still they kept coming.  Tom's Immaculate furies entered the lobby and opened up on the galleries. 2 PV's and 2 MKI's went down - esp under the hail of the Imperceptor's Nazagaroth at SR or sometimes PB! Ouch!  Thank heavens for cover!

I wanted to give a Tom a  taste of his own medicine so I shifted my Surveiller aside and opened up on the Furies below. - 9  HITS!  2 Furies went down in a blaze of cyberfire!

Not to be outdone, Tom sent his Zenithian Soulslayer scurrying up the steps--

It then leapt across the staircase, over the banister and charged my surveiller doing 2 WDS! (This was so cool to see! I was applauding Tom even though he shracked my guy!)

Meanwhile the PV Captain charged the stairs and fired down slaughtering a bunch more Karnos with his shotgun.

Turn 3 & 4 - Dark Legion won the Init.
The Karnos made a push again and start breaking through to the gallery level--

Leading to some intense melee where troopers from both sides went down.

Then Tom used his Nepharite's Mad Marionette power to seize control of the surveiller, turn it on the MK I's and wipe them out.

I in turn, turned back around and drilled the Zen Soulslayer to gooey bits of badness, but Tom's Angel of Mercy who had been charging
up behind the Karnos finished my heroic deathmachine off.

The Acolytes hurtled up the stairs next, killing the PV captain.

And finishing off what was left of my defenders in the lobby area.

Turns 4 & 5
The upstairs attack - As I mentioned, Tom didn't know where were my guys were - So he sent his surviving acolytes in as bait. As soon as the first two passed my door, I unleashed the Mirrormen!

Not even Tom's angel of mercy could stand against them...however his Imaculate Imperceptor...BUDDAH-BUDDAH-BUDDAH...proved their undoing!

My Overseer Wounded His Doomsday Proclaimer...

But his Nepahrite then charged me in CC and killed my Commander.

However, I soon unleashed my Brotherhood Arch Primates and obliterated his Doomsday Proclaimer

...and the Impercetor at last!

The battle now split into two areas...

While the Nepharite duked it out with the Chemiman...my Arch Primates tried to hold the hallway.

Bhaeleron charged into CC...and while the Assassin tried to stop him...

The Nepharite, having killled the Chemiman, joined the fight and killed the assassin.

However, the Archprimates now opened up with their machine pistols, unleashing a withering storm
of fire, which ultimately won the day!

The Doctor was just barely saved...by the grace of the Cardinal!

VeezCon products:  Not as good as if they had been actually produced by a real figure company, but better than using your shoe to proxy with...sort of!

One of the greatest pleasures I have when I game is seeing (and hopefully playing a game on) the terrain people build.  I'm blessed that I game with a bunch of guys that are artists by career, so they always have cool terrain and well painted figs.

When I saw that hotel/motel/condominium (name that tune), I was awed, excited and immediately perusing the pics to see how I could build something like it!

Oh yeah, the session report was well done as well.  I really need to play this game!!!

Thnx guys!  Your kind words mean a lot.  I had built a bunch of other bldgs and wanted a cool centerpiece for my cyberpunk city, it started off as one thing and gradually took on a life of its own. Soon it was a massive endeavor, that involved multiple trips to the art shop for foamcore, lots of hirst mold casts, and more patience than I thought even I had.

The lobby was the most fun, but the stairs took me a while to engineer, the floors above (which all separate) began to become tedious by the time I got to the fourth one.  The balconies also seemed like a good Idea until I found my self cutting and assemblng 16 of them!  Still, like all great adventures, I was pleased with what I had accomplished once it as over.

The only bummer is, I messed up a bit and the upper 4 elevators don't align with the lobby perfectly - but c'est la guerre.

I was going to paint it, but my GF pleaded her case that it looked more futuristic all white, and seeing as that meant I didn't have to spend the time doing it...I obliged her!

SIDE NOTE: About Karnos - I was kinda disappointed at how low their CC was (somehow I never noticed it) - despire their numbers, we saw a lot of missed slashes!

@Krate - That's exactly what my boxing coach tells me...I never believe him though!   :P :o ;D

@Petru - I'm a closet scenery builder, so I'd love to see some of the stuff your artist buddies do, I'm always looking at other people's work for ideas and inspiration.  Pls. take some pics and share.

http://forum54.oli.us/index.php?topic=5181.0 was the last time I put in one of our sessions that featured terrain that is awesome.  What people don't realize is the size of the stuff.  It's geared for 54mm gaming!  The table in the pics is 6'x8'.  In that set of buildings, the guy that created it all, Ken, made a Reichstagg (sp?) building for the fall of Berlin.  It looks real!

I should have taken pics of the game Ken's taking to the convention this weekend.  It's another set of ceiling tile buildings that are made into desert adobe-style places.  They look as good as, if not better than the buildings that cost tons of money ($25+ each).  I'll take some pics this weekend.

What really impresses me is the speed in which Ken can create new stuff.  His ability to conceptualize and then know how to build is phenomenal.  For instance, I created one capital-sized starship in the amount of time he created a fleet.

Geez, it sounds like I've got a Mancrush.  If one can have a Mancrush in strictly an artistic capacity, I guess I do!

Great report. I love having the Slaughtermaster and Soulslayers leap into combat especially into troops who think they are safe in an elevated position.
