Yep, and it's not a bad one either though I'm practically living at the place right now. Knew I should have asked for an hourly rate rather than salary.
I must say, I have never been without a job longer than 3 months unless I wanted it that way since I turned 14 in 1975. It's been June 29, 2004 since I had permanent steady work. I've been one step away from homeless for the last seven months. I got my current job on November 7th and it was a call from a resume I sent out in May. They had hired someone else and it didn't work out. Im happy to say that they are well pleased with my work My probation period ends on Feb 7 and it is almost certain that I will go permanent.
In the two months I've been with them, I have built a Microsoft SQL database from data they had in MYSql using an Access front end and the internal data entry part of the db and am in the process of designing a web front end for it using ASP.Net and Visual Studio 2005. Considering that I have never worked with either of these, it's coming along quite well and should be going live in about two weeks. I've also been managing their LAN which was a mess when I got there and have it at least staying up and not breaking down at least twice a day now. I've also put together a 30 page design for the network and am starting to implement some of the changes.
If you would like to see some of my handiwork, I built a temporary website for them until we can get a more professional one completed. Considering that this is the first website I've ever built professionally and I did it in five hours, I think I did okay. I mainly used Publisher and then imported it into Front Page and made some additional changes there. The address is
http://www.pesi.us (Its a little bit slow loading since it is hosted inhouse on a DSL line - Im still trying to convince the boss we need a T-1 or he needs to host it elsewhere). Its been running for two weeks now and has over a 1000 hits. If you know anybody in the restaurant business, particularly pizza or Italian food, recommend us to them. We are the world's largest supplier of parts for that business and rapidly becoming the worlds largest supplier of refurbished pizza equipment. Part of my plan is to hook up the two new warehouses being built in Dallas TX and Memphis TN this year to the WAN and hiring two more IT people.
Back on topic, if I get some breathing room in the next month or so, I hope to make a trip down your way to Atlanta one weekend and do some gaming. I miss it something terrible. I built an 8 foot by 8 foot S gauge (American Flyer) train table and in the process of doing the terrain on it for the train club and I keep thinking what a great place to have a game of warzone. S gauge is basically 25mm and would work great with Warzone. If you can head up this way, it's a 4 hour drive and I have the keys to the train depot.
Got to head to bed, hopefully I can get on here more regular now.
