OK, I think I can write some things on this matter  ;D

1. Never follow my tips and advices ::)

2. I only won ONE local first edition Warzone tournament (many years ago). And never went to any tournament again (this includes UWZ tournaments). So keep that in mind if you follow reading this post  :D

3. I've seen that previous post are centered mainly in weapons range and terrain. I think that troops abilities are very important too.

I love to play with Semai, so in case I get the oportunity to play an UWZ tournament some day, I would use the following Semai army (750 points):

750 Pts - Dark Legion: Semai

1x Callistonian Conqueror / Jakht Throwing Disc; Vassht Sword .........47

1x Metropolitan Prophet / Voriche Hand Cannon .........62

1x Callistonian Sundancer / Zracth Sniper Rifle .........36

1x Heretic Corruptor / Falsefire Axe; Voriche Pistol .........35

8x Heretic Legionnaires / Dagger; Kratach Assault Rifle; Voriche Pistol .........168
1x Dissident Leader / Carcass Under Barrel GL; Apex A12 Smoke Grenade; Havoc Supression Grenade; Dagger; Kratach Assault Rifle; Voriche Pistol .........38

4x Dissidents / Kratach Assault Rifle; Voriche Pistol .........92

2x Callistonian Intruders / Jakht Throwing Disc; Vassht Sword .........70

4x Dark Huntsmen / Kratach Assault Rifle .........96

2x Soul Reapers / Greater Soulscythe .........104

Total 748

Most of the troops have Infiltrate and/or stalk like abilities (some very funny like Carnivorous birth  ;D), so they can be deployed strategically on the table (infiltrate) or be hidden until they are spotted. I think this kind of abilities are very tactical when you have games with different goals, and not only "killing everything on the table". Perhaps the weak point is the lack of heavy and AV weapons (I'm thinking about facing Erradicator deathdroids, for example), but the Soul Reapers' Greater soulscythe can inflict DAM 15 in CC (or more attacking from hidding status). In open terrains, you can use infiltrate to take the best positions near the objectives and look for cover, and going into short and close combat faster than crossing all the table. We have also a sniper to deal with long range accurate shots ;)

And the most important thing, the psicological factor: many infiltrating troops can make your adversary to feel a little bit nervous, increasing his chances of a bad move ;D

And now, go up and remember point 1.

Not a horrible list, Caronte.  I'd be curious to see how it runs/plays on the battlefield.

If you can make it for Talamania III, give it a go.  I know you're in Spain so its a trip... but perhaps its a possible vacation for you.  (Vacation in the States playing UWZ?  How decadent. :) )

Well, it is sad that I didn't came back to the forum last year: I was in Charlottesville (Virginia) for a scientific congress and visiting New York. But the next time I cross the ocean I'll try to arrange a game with someone ;)

the winnable tourney army is the one that lets you vanquish your enemies and chase them before you, to rob them of their wealth and see those dear to them bathed in tears, to ride their horses and clasp to your bosom their wives and daughterssss!

conan's a great movie haha.

well.. infiltrating is nice, of course. however, in the end it comes down to killing & having enough meat shilds.

i think you are right about your concerns regarding big vehicles, or vehicles like the GG, against them.

i only played cyb + cap recently, so here my cyb proposal for ballance:

+++
750 Pts  -   Cybertronic Army

1 Operations Overseer @ 53 Pts

1 Vince Diamond @ 54 Pts

1 Dr. Cynthia Diana @ 36 Pts

1 Chasseur Captain @ 37 Pts
     Pin-Point Weapon Enhancemnt; Laser Sight

4 Chasseurs; Pin-Point Weapon Enhancemnt   @ 128 Pts
     1 Chasseur Sgt @ [21] Pts
     1 Chasseur HMG Specialist @ [27] Pts

2* 5 Peoples Volunteers @ 99 Pts
       1 Peoples Volunteer Sgt @ [19] Pts

1 Eradicator Deathdroid.AV @ 113 Pts

3 Attila Cuirassiers @ 129 Pts

Total Army Cost: 748
+++

question is, if it is stronger or weaker, on _all_ bords (tournament), than this cheesy looking one..

+++
750 Pts  -   Cybertronic Army

1 Operations Overseer @ 68 Pts

4* 4 Chasseurs @ 124 Pts
       1 Chasseur Sgt @ [19] Pts
       1 Chasseur Sniper @ [33] Pts

2* Scorpion Launcher @ 86 Pts; Anti-Personnel Rockets
+++

or even this cheasy:

+++
750 Pts  -   Cybertronic Army

1 Operations Overseer @ 53 Pts

2* 3 Attila Cuirassiers @ 205 Pts
      1 Scorpion Launcher @ [76] Pts

2* 4 Peoples Volunteers @ 83 Pts
         1 Peoples Volunteer Sgt @ [19] Pts

1 Eradicator Deathdroid.AV @ 113 Pts

Total Army Cost: 742
+++

*edit* @conan/winnable tourney army:
yeah conans great! unit y-0010-1001: Capture species and prepare crygogenics. we will see how a little chrome makes this babarian look nice

i like cybertronic, but the cc is too expensive.. i rather shoot. the attilas are the best meat shilds ever. though but sometimes dangerouse. of course a bit undergunned..

normally i only max out if the army permits (applies to whfb also). if you need to take 4 minimum grunts, no elite only to take 2 support i wonīt really do it. in the capitol army i find the "assault" marienes best in 2. line. the can protect you very well of CC troops (at the expense of grunts normally) and later when there is more space (dead grunts) shoot quite good. i think 2 GG would be far better than 2 orcas+hmg but the subject army construction rules i leave now..

in turnament i would try the fist or perhaps the third army.
